What is a fad diet?

A fad diet is a weight loss plan or aid that promises dramatic results. These diets typically don't result in long-term weight loss and they are usually not very healthy.

What are some examples of fad diets?

Weight Watchers is a system that has been around for a while. It encourages eating a balanced diet, eating in moderation, and to eat what you want to eat.

NutriSystem is a plan where there are pre-made packaged meals engineered to give you a certain amount of calories per day based on your age and gender.

The Raw Food Diet This diet bans foods that have been cooked or processed in any way and encourages eating only raw fruits and vegetables.

The Master Cleanse is a diet that has been around for decades. There are many variations of this diet. In this diet you live on only lemon juice, maple syrup, and cayenne pepper mixed in water.

You will gain the weight back. Prolonged hunger, depression, fatigue, irritability, muscle loss, and and sinus problems can all occur due to participating in fad diets.
