Talley Street Update
August 25, 2022
October 6, 2022
Dear Talley Community,
I hope everyone is having a great week. Welcome to Kelly Nichols and Lateefah Mosley as Talley Street’s new assistant principals. Monday was their first day in their new roles. They have hit the ground running. We are in the process of hiring a new school manager. Until we have someone in place, please send any transportation changes to your child’s homeroom teacher and Ethel Johnson. Ms. Johnson’s email address is ejohnson1@csdecatur.net.
Today is National Instructional Coach’s Day. I want to give a big shout out to our coaches Ms. Block and Dr. Muhlhausen. We are so lucky to have them at Talley Street! Have a great afternoon!

READING RALLY HOUSE CELEBRATION SCHEDULE
WHAT IS THE TALLEY READING RALLY?
This read-a-thon fundraiser encourages students to read, while giving them a chance to raise money for the PTO. The Reading Rally is one of the largest PTO fundraisers of the year. Funds raised support school-wide events, DEI and STEM programs, school garden and wellness initiatives, teacher appreciation activities, teacher grants, and/or other needs as they arise in our school community. This year students will be competing as Talley Houses.
HOW DOES THE TALLEY READING RALLY WORK?
Parents can sign up for a PTO user account (if you don’t have one already) and create a Reading Rally campaign for your child. Click here for instructions.
Once the campaign has been approved, your child will be able to log the number of minutes they read each day, share the campaign on Facebook, send a campaign link to sponsors, and collect donations through their online campaign. Sponsors can donate a flat amount or pledge an amount per minute read. For more information, check out this Reading Rally Presentation.
Donations can be collected through the PTO website through October 31st.
Sponsors can also submit checks payable to the Talley Street PTO (with Reading Rally on the memo line). Checks can be mailed to the school at 2617 Talley Street, Decatur, GA 30030.
Spirit Night
Save the date! Our next Spirit Night is on October 12th at Raging Burrito. Please mention Talley when you dine-in and place to-go orders. You can also write Talley on their online order notes.

Decatur Education Foundation
Miles Above Award -- As Mr. Rogers used to say, "Look for the helpers." We honor 'the helpers' through our Miles Above Award, which was established by Sam and Leah Jenness to recognize their son's teacher, Laura Pitts, who acted with extraordinary kindness and bravery in the face of tragedy. Mile's young life was taken too early when he was involved in a fatal car accident in 2018. The Miles Above Award seeks to honor his life and recognize a pre-K-3rd grade teacher, paraprofessional or CSD staff who exhibits extraordinary kindness and compassion towards young students in challenging circumstances. If you would like to nominate someone, please click here: https://forms.gle/pgrLV5zyXGevqkD67
