PES Principal Message
February 23, 2023

It was really lovely to see our kids and community come together to brighten Carter's birthday. It certainly was a gift to all involved to get to take part. Please see an opportunity to further assist the Dubois family and participate in #TeamCarter Tuesdays below.
Next week we hope to maintain our focus on instruction and squeeze in a LOT of learning before our staff and students head into spring break. We have a lot happening in addition to the learning including our spring bookfair. We also added in some fun dress-up days for Read Across America Week. You can find details for both in Mrs. Stewart's news. Our 4th graders will be folk dancing the night away Thursday evening and we will wrap up the week with Puster Pride on Friday.
Please note all lost and found items will be donated on March 3rd following Puster Pride. Please stop by and take a look!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Puster Proud,
Holly

Attendance Updates
Attendance continues to be a top priority for Lovejoy ISD. It should come as no surprise that attendance has a direct relationship with student learning. Additionally, public school funding is provided by the State of Texas based on each district's average daily attendance (ADA).
Lovejoy has developed an Attendance Task Force consisting of staff, parents, and students to formulate ideas about how to positively impact ADA in our district. One suggestion is to update the community via weekly principal communication on the number of absences each campus has accrued YTD along with the budgetary impact of those absences. This information can be found below:

Heart of the Teacher and Heart of Support

Ariel is a ray of sunshine at Puster. She is a huge part of building a positive culture on our campus. She has built a great STEM/Library program for our students and is constantly learning. She truly knows our students as individuals and works to motivate them to learn.
Pat Panmanee, Student Nutrition
Pat works whenever, whatever, wherever needed. She loves the kids and goes out of her way with each individual student. She pays attention to their needs and wants and remembers them when they come through the cafeteria.

I’d like to call out just how special Mrs. Porter is. Our son, experienced a lot of changes in the last 2 years, which has caused him to become very sensitive and anxious, and he is easy to get upset. Mrs. Porter has been the loving, guiding, and caring person he needs in his life. As parents, we do our best to make him feel comfortable and happy but when he is not in our care, we definitely worry about how he is doing and feeling. Our son is growing, learning, and feeling more confident by the day because of Mrs. Porter’s teaching style. She is full of love and kindness and is the perfect teacher for him. Her gentle teaching style is exactly what our son needs to thrive and become a good student. We are grateful that she listens to him and is in tune with his needs, which sometimes can change hour to hour. Thank you Mrs. Porter for all that you do for all the children.

In case you haven’t heard, our Puster book fair opens Monday February 27th at 7:30. We will close Friday March 3rd at 12. Students may shop before school, during their library time and during other times their teacher allows. We will be open late on Thursday March 2nd from 4:00-6:45 if you want to pop in and shop after school and then see our 4th Grade program. We accept cash, cards or the easiest, safest method, a book fair gift card!
Buy a book fair gift card here: https://efairs.literati.com/product-category/gift-cards/
In the hands of students, digital gift cards are a safe and easy payment method that won’t get lost in a backpack. They make great gifts for teachers!
Gift cards can be purchased from your online fair at efairs.literati.com. Customers can buy gift cards in person as well, so long as they have the recipient’s email address at checkout.
HOW THEY WORK
Purchase online at https://efairs.literati.com/product-category/gift-cards/ or purchase gift cards at checkout, the customer enters in a recipient’s email address.
A gift card code is then sent to the recipient’s email inbox.
To redeem, the cashier scans the gift card code at checkout, or the recipient inputs the code online.
Gift cards never expire, so students and teachers can use any remaining funds on their next Literati Book Fair!
Teacher book fair wish lists are a great way for the community to give back to their teachers. This year, there will be a teacher wishlist stand full of wishlist tickets.
Can’t make it in? Try our Online Companion Fair https://efairs.literati.com/books/ and select Puster Elementary. Our online fair allows the whole community to shop our book fair, including those who aren’t able to visit in person. Online companion fairs feature an expanded catalog of books, giving you a bigger array of titles to choose from. That way everyone can find a new favorite read!
When our book fair ends, our online fair will close and all online purchases will be added to our total book fair sales. Then they will ship our school’s online book orders, which should arrive at our school within 10 days, depending on carrier transit times. Shipments will contain a packing list with teacher and student names, I will then distribute orders.
