Attitude Is A Choice...
I'm reminded that during these busy and sometimes stressful times, maintaining a positive attitude is essential. We can't control the actions of other people or the circumstances that come our way, but we can choose how to respond to them. As parents and educators, we need to be problem solvers, conflict managers, and in some sense even counselors. We need to show calmness, kindness, and compassion, no matter how frustrated and overwhelmed we may feel at times. These are important things for us to model to our students.
I was reminded this past week that more times than not, kids don't "choose" to misbehave; something is motivating them to act the way they do. It is important to try to uncover that reason. That's why collaboration among the adults in our schools is so important. In addition to trying to trouble shoot the best ways to help our kids, we also need to lean on each other for support and understanding.
At the end of the day, parents and educators, we know our kids are worth the time, tears, and energy we give them. Below are some quotes I read this weekend that really resonated with me. Each of us is playing a part in teaching our students how to think, cope, respond, and grow socially, emotionally, and academically. We are so lucky to play such a major role in the life of a child! Let's remind each other of this!

Parents/Guardians - Check JMC!
As always, please encourage your child to talk with teachers regarding any questions or concerns.
Mrs. May - Presenter at the IHSSA
This year Ms. May presented one of the "SWIFT sessions", an opportunity for coaches to go around to get information in quick 15 minute rotating sessions. With a wide variety of coaches from all over the state, she enjoyed sharing warm-up techniques for young people, and ways to energize, focus, and prepare high school actors for performance.
It's always an honor when one of our GHV teachers is asked to lead a group of leaders!
Well done, Mrs. May! Thank you for your leadership!
