February Kindness Challenge

Big picture
During the month of February our Rose Glen Eagles will be involved in a kindness challenge. This week we will be focusing on our BE Statement of BE KIND to kick off our kindness challenge. Teachers and staff will acknowledge students daily who are demonstrating kindness throughout the day. Each of act of kindness will result in a link for our Kindness Chain. The goal by the end of the month is to wrap the hallways of Rose Glen in Kindness through out Kindness Chain. Thank you for all that you do to support our Eagles as we are looking forward to acknowledging their positive choices and acts in the upcoming month.

Dismissal Update

Big picture
Just when we think we have it figured out! The return of Middle School and High School students is certainly impacting our overall dismissal as the buses are then arriving just a little bit later. This is causing a bit of congestion at the top of Brookhill Drive closest to 59. If you recall we went through some of the same challenges at the start of the school year. Here are a couple of tips that might make this a little easier as we adjust to the later arrival of the buses. Please remember that safety is the top priority in all of this as we look to dismiss a significant number of students in a very short amount of time.

  • Consider arriving just a few minutes later if you are picking your child up at Walkers. This will allow for the buses to pull into school.
  • If you notice that buses cannot turn on Brookhill because your car is blocking the entrance, then please consider moving forward and pulling into the parking lot or looping around the Cider Hills subdivision.
  • If you are at The Circle DO NOT park right along the street within the circle. This blocks the view of cars turning and children walking. This is an accident waiting to happen.
  • If you are parking and then waiting for your child on the grassy area (that is now covered in snow) then consider parking a little further up so that we can get more cars down the hill and hopefully reduce the congestion at the top of the hill.

We will monitor how this goes this upcoming week to see if additional changes need to be made to our dismissal plan. Again, we are able to get a large amount of kids out of this building in a very short amount of time. Your patience is greatly appreciated as we work through all of this again.

If your children are missing coats, sweatshirts, water bottles or lunch boxes, please have them check the Lost and Found. We have the items on tables near the office to make it easier for students to check for lost items. Of course, having names on items helps us be able to return them quicker to the owner. We do our best to check for names as we are putting items on the table. Any remaining items will be donated at the end of the month.

Yearbook Ordering

Yearbook ordering will be available on the VIP website at a later date. We were under the impression that families would be able to order yearbooks at the same time they were ordering

pictures, but found out that is not the case. We will post the yearbook link as soon as it becomes available.

Big picture
To enhance the existing absence reporting procedure, the School District of Waukesha introduced a new, more efficient student absence reporting system called "SafeArrival" which started at Rose Glen in October of 2018. This system works in conjunction with our district messenging system (School Messenger). It reduces the time it takes to verify student attendance, makes it easier for you to report your child’s absence and makes it easier for staff to respond to unexplained student absences. We would love to have all of our families using this system by the start of school.

Pre-Excused Absences: If you know your child is going to be absent and you want to report that before the student is marked absent in school, Safe Arrival provides three convenient methods:

1. Using your mobile device, download and install the SchoolMessenger app from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store (or from the links at The first time you use the app, select Sign Up to create your account. Select Attendance then Report an Absence.

2. Use the SafeArrival website, The first time you use the website, select Sign Up to create your account. Select Attendance then Report an Absence.

3. Call the toll-free number 1-866-490-7371 to report an absence using the automated phone system. These options are available 24 hours/day, 7 days a week.

Future absences can be reported at any time.

Post-Excused Absences: If you were not able to report your child’s absence in advance you will be notified by the SchoolMessenger system if your child is marked absent.

You are notified of a reported absence within minutes of the reported absence.

The School Messenger app or the website will allow families to customize where they want to receive their notifications and allow them to excuse the absence right from the notification.

If you report your child’s absence in advance using the SafeArrival toll-free number, website or mobile app, you will NOT receive these notifications.
