Keeping Up with Comm Arts
~November 7, 2022 ~
Hello Comm Arts Family and Friends!
Daylight savings time ended yesterday. I hope everyone enjoyed their extra hour this weekend.
Tuesday, November 8th, is Election Day. This is a student holiday and a Staff Development day. Taft High School is a general election site.
Last Friday, November 4th, marked the end of the first three weeks. Progress reports are available on HAC next week Monday. Report cards are currently available on HAC. Students and parents, please keep an eye on grades and attendance. Thank you!
If you have any questions or concerns about attendance, please email Ms. Cody at olivia.cody@nisd.net.
Seniors, please ensure your school is listed as Communications Arts when ordering your cap and gown. Our caps and gowns are white. Don't wait to place your order online. If you only need a cap and gown, here is the link: Cap, Gown, & Tassel.
Juniors, don't forget about class rings. Here is the link: Comm Arts HS Class Jewelry if you want to purchase.
Recruitment Season
We are about to embark on another recruiting round of incoming 9th graders for next year. We have two magnet fairs (one at the Northside Gym and the other at Paul Taylor Fieldhouse) in December. If you are interested in volunteering to help us recruit, please let me know and fill out a background check form below. It's from 6:30-8 p.m. on the 5th and 12th. You basically mingle with curious parents of 8th graders and answer questions. We are also there as a backup. I like to bring parents who are familiar with our school to give their perspective to potential new candidates. I appreciate your consideration.

District Devices
If you already have a district Chromebook, please take a moment to turn off your device completely. A few updates are needed and can only be added once you turn off/on your device. Thank you!

NHS Induction Ceremony
The NHS induction ceremony is scheduled for November 15th at 6:00 pm. Inductees should arrive no later than 5:30 pm. For all inductees: if you plan to attend the ceremony, please return the NHS Induction Response Form to Mr. Rosser or Ms. Barrera. This will ensure we have your name included in the script and the certificate printed. Any questions may be directed to Mr. Rosser at michael.rosser@nisd.net.
UIW Conference
Red Ribbon Door Contest Winners
Press Conference with Congressman Castro
On November 3rd, Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20) held a press conference with student journalists from San Antonio high schools and colleges. Our very own Comm Arts Media (CAM) News Editor, Brynn Dominguez, was in attendance. She asked a great question about Texas water and air quality.
Online Tutoring
Attendance Recovery can only be completed in person with a Comm Arts teacher/staff member.
AP Exams
It's a campus expectation that all students take the AP exam for their Comm Arts AP classes. Students were registered for their exam(s) when they joined their AP class(es). Please complete payment for these exam(s) as soon as possible.
NISD students only pay $40 per exam. For those that qualify for Free and Reduces Meals, AP exams are $20. Parents/guardians need to re-apply each year. Once approved, we will refund the difference.
Here are the three ways to pay:
1. Cash through the Comm Arts front office
2. Check through the Comm Arts front office
3. Card via My School Bucks
If you have questions or concerns, please contact Ms. Lewis @ elizabeth.lewis@nisd.net.
