The Livonia PTSA Council is Giving Thanks for All Our Wonderful Units!
As we enter the season of thankfulness, we want to thank all our awesome PTA/PTSA officers, members and families! Thank you for all you do for our LPS families!
Exciting things are happening in our schools and it is all because of great people like you!
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!

Food Service Worker Appreciation
Livonia PTSA Council is organizing a food service worker appreciation event similar to our bus driver appreciation! Technically, food service appreciation day is in May, but we're bumping things up to November – I've been in touch with Ms. Pat over at food service and would you believe that during the first month of school, our amazing kitchen gurus have served 42,744 breakfasts and 115,737 lunches – an average of 7,200 meals a day! WOW!
We'll be collecting donations at CENTRAL OFFICE for this event. Please make sure to label any donations with LIVONIA PTSA COUNCIL.
PLEASE share this information with your students AND administration! Sign-up Genius link is below. We'll be collecting donations until MONDAY, November 15. If you'd like to help assemble goodie bags, we'll be packing the bags on November 17 at our Council workshop (tentatively at Central Office, more details to come!)
Below are coloring sheets we'd love to include with the goodie bags. Please pass on to your schools and let's get those kids (and adults) coloring!
Please let me know if you have any questions!
Thank you,
Mandy Gerstenbrand

Membership
Can you believe October is already over?! Has your PTA/PTSA had a Membership Challenge? How have you encouraged families, friends, staff, students, neighbors, etc. to join your PTA/PTSA? Some schools have had a lot of fun with exciting Membership Challenges for their PTA/PTSA units! We've had high schools competing against each other. Triads competing. And more! We'd love to hear about what you did, what worked, and how successful your unit was! If you haven't had a membership drive yet, it's not too late! With the holidays quickly approaching, now is a wonderful time to show your families what you're all about and why they should join your PTA/PTSA.
*Please remember to remit your Michigan PTA dues by the 28th of every month for all new memberships. Also, if you have not submitted your Livonia PTSA Council annual dues yet, please do so as soon as possible as they were due October 28th.

Founders' Day Nominations
Founders' Day will be held on February 16, 2022 at St. Mary's Cultural Center. We will again use the Reflections theme as our theme – "I Will Change the World By." Start brainstorming about those centerpieces now!
We will follow the same format with each unit (school) nominating one staff volunteer and one parent/grandparent/guardian volunteer who has made an impact in their school through their work with PTA. Middle school and high school units will also nominate one student volunteer to be honored. I will need these by December 19, prior to the Christmas break, in order to have time to put the printed program together so be thinking about your nominees.
Please use nomination forms below (must be typed and emailed back, NO handwritten forms will be accepted) or these Google Forms links:
Distinguished Parent Nominee 2022
Distinguished Staff Nominee 2022
Distinguished Student Nominee 2022
For those who may be new to PTA and Founders' Day, it is our chance to celebrate PTA and everything you do for our schools and students. It involves dinner (and dessert!) and a program honoring the volunteers who are nominated by each unit as mentioned above. Each unit purchases one or more tables to allow the unit's executive board, principal(s) and honored guests to attend. There is a centerpiece contest with prizes. We will once again do a slideshow highlighting all of the amazing events put on by our units so make sure you are taking pictures! (See Founders' Day Photo link below).
There will be more information coming soon, but if you have questions please don't hesitate to contact me.

P.S. I sent this information to all unit presidents and first vice presidents according to officer information uploaded into MemberHub. If anyone needs to be added or removed from the list due to position changes or you would just like them in the loop, please just let me know.

Livonia City Council Candidate Questionnaire – Candidate Responses
For the Livonia City Council Election on November 2, there are four open seats with seven candidates for the voters to select from.
While City Council does not have direct oversight of our schools, as community leaders, City Council can work together with our schools to build a stronger community. The Livonia PTSA Council asked the candidates a list of questions regarding their thoughts and ideas on issues related to the schools in our community.
All the candidates replied. We would like to thank them for taking the time to do so. A cellphone friendly version of this Q&A is available on our website (along with other election resources)… https://livoniaptsacouncil.org/work/advocacy/.

PEP points!
Now that we're a couple of months into the school year, you should be submitting all necessary information to fulfill your Standards of Affiliation status. The IRS requires your 990 to be completed prior to November 15th. Please be sure that has been submitted on time and uploaded into Memberhub. Does your unit have their Policies and Procedures? Have you emailed them to PEP? Have you uploaded your bylaws into Memberhub? How about your Audit from the summer and your current year's budget? Have you renewed your PTA/PTSA's insurance? Upload all of these files into Memberhub by their deadlines and receive easy PEP points! This will also keep you in compliance as a PTA/PTSA unit. It's that easy! Is your school participating in the National PTA's Reflections program? If so, be sure to submit those entries to Livonia PTSA Council's Reflections Chairpersons, Debbie Yates and Andrea Malenfant prior to December 1st.
Has the Executive Board of your PTA/PTSA signed the Bylaws Acknowledgement form and the Financial Best Practice form? Do you have your Advocacy Chair, DEI Chair, and Reflections Chair? Have you sent Livonia PTSA Council your annual dues? Even though it is past the deadline to receive PEP credit, please still send these to PEP and Council as they are still needed.
*To find out more information on your PEP status, please visit Livonia PTSA Council's website at livoniaptsacouncil.org/work/pep. A breakdown by school is on our website. Please note the date on the entry as it is an uploaded file, not a live feed, and is uploaded every month. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your PTA/PTSA's standings, please feel free to contact me.

COUNCIL'S UNIT SPOTLIGHT
Buchanan Elementary
The Buchanan PTA held a Family Portrait Fundraiser on Sunday, October 17. We offered 10-minute mini sessions for $50 with half of the proceeds coming back to the PTA. We booked four photographers to cover four hours and were lucky enough to have beautiful weather all day. We ended up photographing 41 families and raising over $1,000. Many thanks to Jill Allevato for chairing this fun event!

Churchill High School
For 2 weeks in September, Churchill PTSA conducted a Student Member Drive. We offered gift cards from local businesses as an incentive for joining PTSA and the Franklin membership challenge might have helped too ;). During the member drive, our student membership grew by over 50%! We saved three gift cards for which any of our members were eligible. We’re happy to announce those cards went to three members of our hard-working Churchill Staff! We had a total of 20 gift cards and would like to thank some really awesome local businesses for the donations: Jimmy John’s, Panera, Biggby, Coffee & Cream, AMC, Buffalo Wild Wings and Zack’s of Plymouth. Check out the pictures below for part of the Instagram post created by our student-led social media team!

Franklin High School
Although it was a chilly morning, the event was a success and everyone had a great time! We are thankful to our sponsors: Alpha USA who provided granola bars, apples and bananas, and Busch’s for donating a $50 gift card that was used for water, cider and donuts.
The profits from this event will go into our general budget to help with senior scholarships or staff appreciation.

Frost Middle School
The Frost community stepped up HUGE to support our fall membership drive. The all Middle School PTSA Membership Contest provided Emerson, Holmes and Frost a friendly competition to increase membership. Frost PTSA won the contest with several initiatives. We hosted a membership table at Open House. All new memberships from that evening were entered to win one of three donated Little Caesar's pizza kits. We also held a $5 gift card drawing for all new memberships through October 15, which was the last day of the contest. The contest and raffles were promoted through social media and email. Frost PTSA had a 68% increase in memberships due to the contest and our initiatives to promote it.
Jackson Center
We had an amazing Fall Fun Fest return this year! Our chairperson, Amanda Scheffler, organized a fabulous event and coordinated over 40 volunteers over two days to make sure the event was a success for the whole school!! All kids, from six weeks to five years old, participated in the events: a coloring station, candy corn bowling, donut and apple juice tasting, spin the prize wheel, and pick a pumpkin! We want to thank our community partners, Larry's Foodland, (who donated 700 pumpkins!!), Busch's Fresh Food Market, and Looney Baker, for their support!! The kids and Jackson Center Staff had a great time!!!
Kennedy Elementary
The Kennedy Elementary Color Run 2021 was a messy, but fun success with students and staff alike! At each quarter mile lap, participants could choose between running the color path or running the alternate path. Participants who choose the color path were doused from head to toe in different colored powders. Participants who choose the alternate path collected colored bracelets. Students gathered pledges as part of their participation and Kennedy surpassed its fundraising goal! We almost doubled our initial goal. This was our first time doing a Color Run and we will definitely do it again!
