Children Share Thanksgiving Cheer With Sunrise Residents
Laura B. Sprague School first-graders recently visited residents of the Sunrise Senior Living of Buffalo Grove to share “Thanksgiving cheer” as a way to give back to their community.
Lincolnshire’s District 103 staff believes in reaching out to the community. The district encourages its staff, students, and parents to volunteer their time and talents to enrich student learning in the global community.
“These activities build speaking and listening skills, confidence, and generational connectivity,” said teacher Lisa Lindell, who chose this site because her granny lives there. For pictures of the activity, please visit the school's Facebook page.

About The Many Colors of Harpreet Singh: Indian-American Harpreet Singh is a practicing Sikh and has a different color patka, or head covering, for every occasion. When his mother gets a job in a small snowy town across the country, Harpreet is apprehensive about the move despite his parents' assurance that it will be an adventure. Harpreet begins to wear colors for not-so-happy occasions: Will Harpreet ever feel like his cheerful self in his new home? Kelkar's telling of Harpreet's story is crisp and straightforward, and Marley's bright illustrations tactfully and subtly convey cultural differences that make Harpreet feel different from and invisible to his peers.
