The Star
Ruby Bridges - where the STARS come to shine!
Hello from the principal's desk!
8/30/2017
I hope your children have had as wonderful a time as the staff has had over these two weeks of school. Tons of smiles, laughter and learning going on over here. Mr. Lundholm, our new VP, has spent every recess and lunch duty getting to know kids. Ask your children if they have seen the new duo rocking our shades and chatting with kids. We have had a blast getting to know your lovely kids! Check out the video on our Twitter feed about how I spent part of my day today :).
Perhaps you also just got my first Remind text, sent out to our whole school? We are going to use this service to communicate with you. I promise, I won't send too many. Just IMPORTANT updates. Your teachers will also be using it to let you in to moments in their classrooms, update you on projects, etc. We are really excited to use it this year! I hope you feel even more connected to our school and our amazingly awesome and fabulous teachers!
Lastly, I have opened up the cafeteria for Second Chance Breakfast for kids that missed their morning breakfast at school. The cafeteria is open from 9:00 - 9:30. Make sure your kids stop by and get some grub!
With gratitude,
Jesse Woodward

Upcoming events at Ruby Bridges
8/31 - Back to School Night. We changed the original date on this event, due to a conflict with the Jewish New Year festival - Rosh Hashana. We will give a keynote address on the outdoor stage at 6:15 and have our first class tour at 6:30, second one at 7:00. Please come, it is important!
9/1 - Mobile Dairy Cow assembly visiting Ruby Bridges. Ask your kids about it Friday night!
9/4 - No School, Labor Day9/8 - Spirit Day Wear your favorite color!
9/26 - SSC (School Site Council) 3:30 - 4:30
We need your help!
- Lunch supervision - We had our first new lunch supervisor come today! Thank you! However, we need more adults during lunch to help keep our campus safe. Want to come and play basketball or four square during recess? Hang out with your Kindergartner or 5th grader and keep an eye on them and their friends during lunch? Come on out and help us during lunch supervision!
- School Site Council - I heard from 3 parents interested in this committee, and need about 3 more. This is one of the most important groups on campus with the least amount of responsibility and time commitment! Come on people!!! The SSC meets 6 times throughout the year after school, and is composed of Ruby staff and parents. We set school budget, look at school goals, and do really important work. I think I need 2 or 3 more parents. Email me!
- Garden upkeep - We are partnering with Project Peace East Bay to get our garden in order. We then want to keep it up, build new planter boxes, and maybe get a program going. Do you have a green thumb and a desire to work with kids? Let me know! We just made a date for another work party, November 4th. Put it on your calendars.
- School sign? Got someone! Thanks to Nicole, who also filled our last seat on the Executive Board of our PTA! Welcome to Ruby!

Hello from STEAM Lab
Hello STARS!
The 1st day of school was quite exciting with our Solar Eclipse Party! Three awesome helpers came up on stage to model how a partial solar eclipse works and show the crowd how to safely wear our PTA provided solar glasses. Thanks Jameson, Lavender, and Adina for your excellent acting skills! This week, I will be working on getting our new STEAM equipment unpacked in the Studio, room 401. I will also be working on getting the Lab, room 402, up and running very soon! Thank you to all of the teachers for rockin’ a busy 1st day with ease and for students following the 4Bs to keep our eyes safe from sun rays! More updates next week!
Tamara Centano
She also wants to start shooting green screen videos in her office up here at Ruby, with info for parents from across the district. Want to help us get that started? Reach out to her or Mr. Woodward!
Ruby Wrap
Again, does anyone have a better title for this? Does anyone have a submission? Email Mr. Woodward and he can put it in the next edition of The Star!
