From the Middle EMS and ELA
News from the Principal, February 18, 2021
Hello Parents and Families,
We are glad to have everyone back in the building this week for in-person learning. We know that remote learning is difficult for engagement and it is definitely not our preference, but of course during this time, we do the best we can to carry forward. Thank you for supporting your students during this extra difficult time. Maintaining their attendance during remote learning is essential for students to come back to in-person ready for next steps in their learning.
We have a lot of exciting opportunities coming up--see below for all the great work happening at EMS and ELA, as well as some very important annoucements.
If at any time you need anything, please do not hesitate to reach out.

CHOICE ENROLLMENT WINDOW IS OPEN!
Reserve your spot for next year--the deadline is soon!
If you live outside of Englewood, and plan to continue in Englewood Schools for 2021/2022 school year, you MUST complete the Choice Enrollment application now in order to attend an Englewood School next year. Those who live out of district and who do not complete a choice enrollment application will not be able to attend Englewood schools in the fall.
Round 1: January 4, 2021 through February 1, 2021
Round 2: February 15, 2021 through August 31, 2021
Englewood offers unique and customized learning opportunities at each school, so you're sure to find one that suits your student. Space is limited, so please fill out the Open Enrollment Application and Agreement (en español) as soon as you have made a decision.
Return the form to the District Registrar at 4101 S. Bannock St. or to Vivian_Cifuentes@engschools.net during the choice enrollment window.
Final decisions will be made within two weeks of the closing of the enrollment window and families will be notified by mail.
If you have questions, please reach out to Trish Tucker in our main office at 303-806-2100.
WISH WEEK IS COMING!
Schools spend one week raising money through a variety of fundraisers to help grant wishes to children with critical illnesses. Currently, Make-A-Wish Colorado has more kids waiting for a wish than ever before. This year we have the opportunity to raise money on behalf of kids like Cliff, he is a 4 year old with congenital heart disease and because of COVID, his wish is on hold.
Cliff loves the colors pink and green, Star Trek, Sir Patrick Stewart, Guardians of the Galaxy and the Minnesota Vikings. We will have a variety of fundraisers to participate in and we would love your support!
Mark your calendars for these fundraiser opportunities:
Monday, March 8--Papa Johns (all day, all locations and online)
Tuesday, March 9--Noodles and Company off Hampden (4--8 pm)
Wednesday, March 10--Chipotle off Hampden (4--8 pm)
Thursday, March 11--Panda Express (all day, all locations and online)

The rental assistance program applies to all families. The application does not ask about citizenship, residency, social security #, etc.
The rental assistance can also help with unpaid months dating back to last March.

Upcoming Sports Seasons
Volleyball 2021
Girls volleyball season will be starting the beginning of March. Like basketball, we do not know
if we be allowed to participate against other schools. Be looking for more info.
Track 2021
As of now, we are anticipating having a track season. We will be competing against other
schools. The difference this year is that the meets will be smaller than in the past and there is a
chance we MAY not be able to have spectators. Track will be starting just after Spring Break. IF
YOUR STUDENT WISHES TO PARTICIPATE IN TRACK THEY WILL NEED TO HAVE A SPORTS
PHYSICAL! More info to come.

Englewood Schools uses four metrics (with Arapahoe County data) to determine if we must shift from In-Person learning to Remote learning. These metrics are based on science, facts and the best interests of our students and staff.
In the event the district calls a delay start to school, the building will open 90 minutes later than usual. Linked here is the delay start schedule for both EMS and ELA.
