Nixon PTO Makes Us Shine!
Updates For the Return to In-Person Learning Starting April 5th
Arrival/Departure
There are anticipated shifts that will occur for dismissal car pick up to facilitate a smoother student release at the end of our school day starting April 5. Our walker list roster has increased, with the return to in-person learning beginning April 5, and we may be releasing our walking students at the end of dismissal. Currently, our walkers depart in the first wave of dismissals, this shift would have walkers leave the schoolhouse at a later time.
Recess
Children will play with their classmates at recess time and have a section of the playground scheduled for their recess time. Each classroom has a rotating schedule for playground play to have an equitable play-space experience across the week. Classes will remain apart and masks will be worn at all times.
Lunch
Children will eat lunch in the cafeteria at assigned desks and remain 6' apart. Classroom teachers will decide on the seating placement for children. Children will sit at the same seat at lunch each day. The eating space will be cleaned after each lunch session with GE Fight Back.
Snack/Mask Breaks
Snack will occur in the cafeteria at 6' distance. There are also eating spaces designated for snack and mask breaks outdoors. The decision to eat inside or outside is dependent on weather and also teacher preference.
Chromebooks
All SPS Chromebooks will be returned to the carts at school starting April 5. Students will not be taking them back and forth to their homes.
For the most current information, please visit the district website and the Increased In-Person Learning and COVID-19 Resources page.
Asynchronous Instruction on Wednesdays, March 24 & 31
In order to provide essential time for staff to prepare for all the changes ahead on April 5, we are providing students with asynchronous learning activities for the mornings of March 24 and 31. This means there will not be any “live” interactions.
PooledTesting
We are pleased to share that the week of 3/15/21 had negative results. We have a high percentage rate of our students participating in pool testing, as well as the majority of staff. We will continue doing free, weekly pooled testing on Mondays and Tuesdays for all who have registered with results expected within 24-48 hours. It’s not too late to register your child to participate.
Desk Assembly
Thank you to our families and to the Nixon PTO for assisting us to assemble desks on 3/24/21 from 12:00-2:00! We have a full sign up and appreciate this community turn out!
A Note About Nixon Coffee Talks - Back On!
We currently have two opportunities per week for connection. This frequency may shift as two times a week can pose s scheduling challenge, we will keep you posted!
