How to Be a Problem Solver
The first line of our Tiffany Ridge Pack Pledge is, “I am a Problem Solver.” This month on our broadcast announcements our students are learning exactly what it means to be a problem solver. We want to instill a sense of independence in our students, not only because our teachers cannot take care of 20 students’ problems all day, but to help them grow in self-confidence and independence. There are many things that they can ‘fix’ on their own without getting an adult involved. One of the ways our students can be Problem Solvers at school is to stop and think about what they need to solve the problem. If it is something they can do on their own, we always want them to take steps to solve the problem without asking a teacher for help. If they do not have a pencil …. Stop and think what they can do to solve the problem... Ask a friend to borrow one, look for another one in the classroom, sharpen theirs if the teacher is not talking...these are all ways to solve the problem without going directly to the teacher. Students can also be problem solvers at home. Allow them time to stop and think about how they can solve problems at home before jumping in and fixing things for them. According to a study at Vanderbilt University here are some steps you can take at home to help students develop independence and self-confidence. Following these steps will help develop students into strong, independent problem solvers!
- Have students work through problems on their own. Ask directing questions or give helpful suggestions but provide only minimal assistance and only when needed to overcome obstacles.
- Model the problem-solving process rather than just giving students the answer.
- Provide positive reinforcement to let students know when they have mastered a new concept or skill.
Weekly Pack Point Winners!
At Tiffany Ridge, we utilize Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS). We recognize students who are actively meeting our four core expectations of being a Problem Solver, Acting Responsibly, Caring for Everyone, and Keeping Safe. We will highlight students in various ways over the course of the year. Here are last week's winners!
Service Project for 4th Quarter
Tiffany Ridge Students! Let’s help our local Ronald McDonald House by collecting pop-tabs during the month of May!! Please collect your tabs and bring them to TR and deposit them in the front hallway. Let’ see how much TR students and families can raise to help kids and families in KC!
Love Pops Out All Over!
At Ronald McDonald House, love comes in all shapes and sizes. Love is made out of chocolate, flowers, pop-tabs, diamond rings. Wait a minute! Pop-tabs? Those aluminum rings on beverage and food cans? How on earth do pop-tabs support Ronald McDonald House? What can you do with a pop-tab?
Why Pop-Tabs?
Pop-tabs remind us of an important lesson: even little things make a big difference. We collect pop-tabs for three reasons: (1) Recycling is good for the environment. (2) Pop-tabs help pay the bills. In 2019, we recycled more than 16 tons and raised more than $14,000 from the aluminum proceeds. (3) Pop-tabs are friend-finders. Pop-tabs are worth more than the entire can because they are made of higher quality aluminum. Collecting pop-tabs is a popular volunteer opportunity that benefits RMH families and is easy to organize. Look at our website for more pop-tab information: https://rmhckc.org/how-you-can-help/poptabs/
Save the date for the district art festival on Saturday, April 23 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, April 24 from 12 to 4 p.m. at the Park Hill High School lower gym and lobby. Artwork from our Tiffany Ridge artists will be on display, along with artwork from across the district.
MAP Testing: Missouri Assessment Program
Due to funding from a federal program, we were able to supply free meals to all children ages 18 and under for the past two years. That program is ending on the last day of school. After the last day of school, we can no longer provide universal free meals or bulk frozen meal kits.
This means students attending summer school will need to pay for breakfast and lunch, or they can bring their own food. Families who think they might qualify for free and reduced meals should apply for these benefits. If you applied for the 2021-2022 school year, you do not need to reapply for summer school, and you can check with our social worker, Gayle Laney, or our Nutrition Services department if you are unsure.
The application for the 2021-2022 school year and 2022 summer school will extend to the first 30 days of the 2022-2023 school year, and then eligible families will need to reapply to receive the meal benefits for the remainder of the upcoming school year.
If your child is eligible for free and reduced meal benefits and you apply, you can also receive additional benefits like fee waivers, activity scholarships, free screenings, school supplies and more. You can find more information on our website: https://www.parkhill.k12.mo.us/families/menus-and-nutrition/free-and-reduced-meals
Kindergarten enrollment is just around the corner, and we have important information for you if you have children starting kindergarten this August. Children who turn five on or before July 31 are eligible for kindergarten for the 2022-2023 school year.
- Enroll your kindergartener beginning April 4th in Infinite Campus.
- Save the date for Kindergarten Kickoff, which will be on May 5th. There will be two sessions. You may choose to attend 5:30-6:15 OR 6:15-7:00. You and your child will get a chance to explore Tiffany Ridge and get excited for kindergarten. Sign up for your Kindergarten Kickoff session at this LINK.
- Get ready for our first day of school on Monday, August 22nd. We will be contacting you to schedule a kindergarten readiness assessment, so we can be ready to meet your child's educational needs.
