Dear TMS families,

I wanted to let you know that the Arlington Heights Fire and Police Departments will be using Thomas Middle School for training purposes during Thanksgiving Break.

Happy Thanksgiving!

We hope everyone enjoys a wonderful break and is able to spend quality time with their family! There is no school next week.

More details to come!

ONE BOOK - ONE SCHOOL

Author Jason Reynolds spoke on Friday afternoon at Thomas Middle School sharing what inspired him to write his stories. He brought his characters to life and shared real stories of his neighborhood where he grew up in Washington D.C. in the 1980's.

Huge thanks to the TMS Community for donating shoes for the Soles-4-Souls. We will update everyone on Wednesday with our total collected. Thank you!

Veterans Day Breakfast

We celebrated 31 veterans at Thomas this morning! The Wind Ensemble and the Thomas Choir performed for our guests. The Den Club welcomed everyone in this morning and the food service staff provided a warm meal for breakfast.

Finally, we recognized a moment of silence for all those who gave the ultimate sacrifice and died in combat. Thomas Alumni Will Newgard is buried at the Arlington National Cemetary in Arlington, Virginia. We also honored him for his sacrifice.

Thank you, Veterans!

ATTENDANCE & TARDY

At the end of each quarter, we will also send home a letter notifying parents of students who have missed more than 5% of the school year or have been tardy for more than 5% of the school year.

"By as early as sixth grade, high truancy rates become a distinct predictor of whether or not a student will graduate from high school."

For this reason, we think it is critical to notify all families that attending school and attending on time is critical to your child's success.

COFFEE & COOKIES WITH THE PRINCIPAL

This event is intended for parents who would like to talk with the principal at Thomas Middle School. Three questions will drive the conversation and when we exhaust these questions parents will have an opportunity to ask the principal any questions of interest.

Questions to Prompt Discussion:

1. What is it we are doing that you love at Thomas?

2. What is it we are doing that you would appreciate us making adjustments for improvement?

3. What do you see taking place at other schools that you think we should consider doing here at Thomas?

Please email the principal, Mr. Brian Kaye, if you are planning to attend at bkaye@sd25.org.

TMS Club Information

Please click on this link to view the latest information on Thomas clubs!

If your child does not see a club they are interested in or they want to consider starting a new club please have them talk with their homeroom teacher about completing a NEW CLUB PROPOSAL form.

Absent & Upcoming Absences? Want to request homework?

If your child has been absent or they have a planned absence in the future please begin to check your child's Schoology account. We have noticed that when parents request homework from teachers they are often referring parents back to the Schoology page where most of the work has been uploaded and accessible to your child when they are feeling well and ready to begin making up the work they missed.

You will no longer need to call the office to request work that has been missed. Instead, you can stay up-to-date by logging into Schoology. We do not expect your child to complete the work while they are absent because we anticipate they are sick and that is the reason they are home. When they are feeling better and ready to begin making up the work it will be available on Schoology. If you are not confident that the work is available on Schoology please email the teacher directly to inquire about what homework specifically needs to be made up.

Thank you!
