Bengal Angle: Opinion Poll
Bengal Angle: Electronics in the Morning
By: Arianna L.
As you may know, using electronics in the morning is a new thing this year. There are both pros and cons to this change. We decided to interview each grade to find their individual pros and cons.
Sixth grade had some things to say. We mostly got the same answers of “I like it” and “It’s great” but we did get some cons. " Some responded with, “...I wish some people would turn down their volume.” This was one complaint we heard from a fellow Bengal, Hallie D. Other students agreed with her, but they also would prefer to be able to be on their device until first period. Overall sixth grade seems to have few complaints and truly appreciate the new privilege.
Seventh grade had their own opinions as well. Four friends, Robert F., Said G., Devin G. and Bryson C. had positive comments about his new procedure, “It’s pretty good. It’s easy to get in contact with parents, and it also keeps us occupied.”
Electronics in the morning has been a great addition for our student Bengals! Be sure to follow campus procedures so we all can enjoy this new opportunity to listen to music and play games in the morning.
Club Review: Hamiltonians
Hamilton Club
By Jacob V.
This week marks the second meeting of the Hamilton Club. This is the club’s first year and it has started out great. All are welcome to join the Briscoe’s Hamiltonians. The club meets on Tuesday from 3:50 pm to 4:30pm. So far, the club has established a remind page, broken out in spontaneous music -a lot, and has begun to watch the Hamilton bootleg for 10 minutes every day. The room where it happens is room G119 run by Coach Cedio, who has a passion for Hamilton. We hope to see you there!
Briscoe-botics
By Jacob V.
These past few weeks have been the first few meetings of the Briscoe Robotics Team. They meet on Thursdays in room B210. This clubs goals are to take on at least 6 of the 14 challenges that are offered. They will be using lego robotics to achieve this. The club has been working on what the design for the robot should be. Next week they plan to establish teams and decide what they want the design to be. While it may be a little too late for new people to join, be sure to cheer them on as they prepare for the competition near the end of January. Be sure to wish them luck this year!
Teacher Spotlight
The World Is a Stage
By: Emma B
Welcome dance teacher Mrs.Lopez! How her love of dance lead her to becoming a dance teacher. “Since I was little I have had a love for dance,” she shares. She didn’t focus on dance all of the time. She also tried cheerleading, piano, sports, and acting but she always kept going back to dance. Almost everyone in her family is a teacher,” It runs in my blood,” she says. She combined both teaching and her love for dance to find her dream job.
Mrs.lopez did a little bit of dance growing up, but it wasn’t until high school when she started focusing on dance because she was on the dance team. Later on she went to Texas State University and became a strutter on their dance team.
This is Mrs.Lopez’s first time teaching middle school full time. At one of the high schools she taught at they would go to a middle school once a day, but it wasn’t a full time schedule.
Mrs.Lopez has taught at three other schools. She has coached the dance team and taught classes at Southwest high school, MacArthur high school, and Taft high school.
Mrs.Lopez’s goal for the school year is to want everyone to love and appreciate dance as much as she does regardless of their background and their ability.
Mrs.Lopez loves teaching at Briscoe Middle School so far.”The kids are so respectful and the teachers are so supportive,”she says.
We are excited to have our new dance program and our new dance teacher Mrs.Lopez!!!
Taft and Briscoe Bands Unite!
by Elliot N
Over the past few weeks the Briscoe Bengal band has been working hard preparing for when they play alongside the Taft Raider band on September 28 at a football game. Last week, on Sep.21, the 8th graders from the Briscoe band and other middle schools in the area joined them as well at a football game.
Some songs that they played on the 28th included Seven Nation Army, Animal by the Neon Trees, Metal Shop, I Gotta Feeling by the Black Eyed Peas, and more!
A fun educational night was had by all. The Taft band got to meet some students who will be joining them as Raiders next year, and Briscoe got a taste of what it was like to be in high school band.
