From Your Pastors
Dear Zion family –
We’ve been in Phoenix the past couple of days for the Best Practices in Ministry Conference hosted by Pastor Jeff Schrank and the fabulous folks at Christ Church Lutheran. It’s been a wonderful time, but we are looking forward to being home and with you this weekend!
Spring Sausage Sale
This Sunday is your final day to place an order for Zion’s annual Spring Sausage Sale. You can order by going to the “Events” page at zionwalburg.org, or by stopping by the display in the lobby. Orders may be picked up Sunday, February 26 from 9 am to 1 pm. Cash or check only. Thanks for supporting Zion’s local, national, and global mission efforts!
Ash Wednesday
Join us for Ash Wednesday worship this Wednesday at 6:30 pm in the sanctuary as we enter into the season of Lent. We’ll share in Communion and will also have an opportunity to have the sign of the cross marked on our foreheads using ashes, which remind us that though we are mortal, Christ has redeemed our lives by His death and has given us the promise of eternal life. Throughout the season of Lent, we will have midweek services in the sanctuary at 6:30 pm. We look forward to seeing you there.
Handbell Choir
Are you looking for a way to use your gifts to honor God in worship? We’d love to have you be a part of our handbell choir. No experience is required, and rehearsals will begin Sunday, February 26 at 10:30 am upstairs in the sanctuary. If you’re interested in joining in, text or call Michael Teinert at 512–591-6819.
Voters’ Meeting
The next regularly scheduled Voters’ Meeting will be Sunday, February 26 at 1 pm in the Worship Center. Childcare will be available in the gym. Join us to hear more about moving forward in ministry together at Zion!
Message Series
This weekend we wrap up our series Zion At Its Best! by seeing how, for all that we do and all the history we have, at the foundation of this ministry is Jesus. The primary text for the message will be Ephesians 2:19-22:
You are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of His household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus Himself as the chief cornerstone. In Him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in Him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by His Spirit.
We’ll see you this weekend in worship at 8 or 10:45 am, or online at zionwalburg.org.
Your pastors love you!
– Pastor Zach & Pastor Kevin
Hebrews Bible Class
Beginning, Sunday, 02/05/23, the Sunday Morning Bible Study Class is taking a break from Martin Luther's Catechism to study and observe the grace of God, through Jesus, set forth in the New Testament book of Hebrews.
The letter to the Hebrews presents Jesus, the Son of God, as the true fulfillment of all Old Testament prophecies. Christians are encouraged to look only to Him as the LORD: the All-Sufficient, Majestic and Sovereign One!
Please join us Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m. in Zion's Parlor and share the insights of the revealed and glorified Christ as recorded in Hebrews. Study Guides will be available. (If you wish to offset the costs of the guides, you may give a donation to Zion's Business Manager, Steve Cashio, earmarked - "Hebrews Study Guide.)

Zion Lutheran, near Walburg, is a growing elementary day school in central Texas, just north of Georgetown. Our campus is located on 25 beautiful acres, where students have an opportunity to learn and grow in so many ways. Our current student body is 240 students, Preschool through Grade 8. We need an 8th grade homeroom teacher for the 2023-2024 school year - with mainly a science background, the ability to teach algebra, and to have a desire to participate in the middle school electives program. God has blessed us with a healthy, award-winning team. We love the Lord with our whole heart, and we love each other, too! Our immense joy is in sharing the Gospel and blessing every child. Check us out at www.zionwalburg.org

Imposition of Ashes
Ash Wednesday is on the 22nd of February. In our weekly chapel service, our church staff will lead us in sharing the beautiful meaning of Lent, which begins on this day. With penitent hearts, we will all have the opportunity to receive an ashen cross on our foreheads, as an outward symbol of our repentance and of God’s promise of forgiveness through His death on the cross and the resurrection on Easter. Please see the attached handout for more explanation.
All families, and our congregation members are invited to join us in the meaningful service in our worship center. It will begin at 8:15 am. Please park in our south lot.
Partnering with Concordia University
The following students are pursuing their LTD/ CTD (Lutheran/Christian Teaching Diploma), and part of that process is to get involved with the parish where they are serving.
Kylie Senclair (Zion alum!) and Madison Medak have joined us as practicum students.
Loryn Newman will join us as a student teacher within the next two weeks, serving in our middle school.
We will welcome them to our Zion campus!
Men's Retreat
Men from several Lutheran congregations in the greater Austin area will again be gathering for a Men's Retreat at Camp Lone Star in LaGrange. The event this year will be held March 3-5 and will feature Bible Study sessions, a Sunday morning worship service, comfortable lodging accommodations, great food, and wonderful Christian fellowship. Landscape Improvement Fund

The costs are estimated to be around $180,000. Therefore, the Landscape Improvement Fund will be created as a new church dedicated account to help fund these efforts. Please prayerfully consider donating to the Landscape Improvement Fund to help cover these costs to beautify Zion’s campus.

Reflect, Connect, interact - the Many Uses of Lenten Devotions
"Man of Sorrows, People of Joy", by Dr. Kari Vo, is 2023's Lenten devotion. Using Matthew's Gospel, Vo shines light on the Savior's gritty, day-to-day earthly ministry and points us to the cross where Jesus gave His all for you and me. This is what makes the season of Lent highly introspective for many. It's a perfect time to consider the depth of our sin and the grace God offers us in Jesus.
It's also an excellent time to introduce others to the Person of Jesus - why He became human, what His work was all about, and what He accomplished on our behalf. Available in English, Spanish, French, and other languages, LHM's Lenten Devotions are an ideal resource to share with others. They can be read and listened to anywhere, used by small groups as a devotional for their "Bible study", or even - by considering a few days at a time - as a Bible Study.
Ash Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2023, is the day that "Man of Sorrows, People of Joy", lhm.org/lent, and Moris para dar fruto, paraelcamino.com.cuaresma, can be accessed online and received as a daily email. Both devotionals can be downloaded and printed for personal or group use as well.
