#CelebrateMonday
October 30, 2017
On this gloomy Monday - it's good to remember that the energy we bring is the energy we attract! So chins up! Eyes bright! and smile to all you meet today! Imagine the impact those few little physical decisions will have on how YOU feel and on how those around you will feel all day!
I'm on vacation today to be a mom. My older kids are on "fall break" (yep, it gets quotes because it's 1 day - how is that a fall "break"??) and today my oldest will have his senior pictures taken (we won't go into that - I can't believe it and it may make me a tad emotional). So I'm going to spend time with my senior and sophomore today - just being a mom.
As I was reflecting on that a bit this morning, I was struck by the fact that I had the thought that I was taking the day to "be a mom" today. And that led me to think about the fact that as educators we do such incredibly important, and often such difficult work, we could easily begin to feel like we are losing other aspects of our individual identities if we are not careful.
And being ourselves makes us the fabulous educators and leaders we are! It's important to take time to invest in the whole person we are and not just in the educator in ourselves.
It's important to celebrate the whole person we are and what we bring to everything it is that we choose to do in life.
Let's not keep it a secret identity like a superhero, or only choose to "unmask" it over the weekend! I'm going to be careful not to say things like "I'm going to be a mom today" because I'm always a mom - and that helps me to be the educator that I am!
Let's celebrate all of the amazing, individual identities that we have and see and not be afraid to let them shine!
And while you are doing all of that celebrating - don't forget to make this the best Monday of the week!
