ALTA VISTA NEWS
Volunteering On Campus / Chaperoning Field Trips
A big thank you to all of our wonderful parent volunteers. We love seeing so many of you help out in the classroom, with school wide events, and attending field trips as chaperones. Please note, you only need to fill out the 2022-2023 Volunteer Code of Conduct form once and it covers you for the entire school year. There is no need to fill it out every time you plan to volunteer. Please be sure to always check in at the office to get a visitor's badge whenever you are on campus during school hours or to attend a field trip. If you have any questions regarding the volunteer policy, please email Salina Nelson at nelsons@unionsd.org. Thank you!
Alta Vista Spring Chorus
We are bringing back Chorus at Alta Vista! Chorus is an extracurricular activity for third, fourth, and fifth graders who love to sing and perform. During twelve morning sessions, beginning February 28th, students work under the direction of Mrs. Jane Threet to learn a variety of songs. In April, there will be an evening concert during which the Alta Vista Chorus will perform for friends and family.
Chorus will be held 7:45 AM on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Students will meet in the cafeteria and will be released in time to make it to class at 8:15. Participants should be ready to sing at 7:45. Students must be committed to attend all twelve sessions and may be dropped from the program due to absences.
Chorus is open to third, fourth, and fifth graders. There is no charge for participation, but there are only a limited number of spaces available. Registration will remain open through 3:00 on February 10th, but may close early if the program reaches capacity.
To register your third, fourth, or fifth grader for Chorus, click on the link below or scan the QR code.
THE GREAT KINDNESS CHALLENGE
Alta Vista is proudly participating in The Great Kindness Challenge this week. Students are participating in classroom activities, joining buddy projects, and spreading kindness across the campus.
Below you'll find some pictures from a favorite Alta Vista Kindness Challenge activity - Chalk the Walk. Students join their classmates and big/little buddies to cover the playground with messages of hope and inspiration. Be sure to walk the playgrounds during drop off or pick up. It's sure to put a smile on your face and sunshine in your day.
Don't forget ... You can continue to spread kindness at home and in the community with The Great Kindness Challenge Family Edition. You'll find a handy link at the bottom of the newsletter.
Together, we will show the world that KINDNESS MATTERS!

What is your favorite thing about Alta Vista?
I love the community! There is such great parent involvement, and I love seeing the kids grow through their years at Alta Vista and beyond.
Tell us about your family.
My husband & I have one son and one daughter, Thomas & Elizabeth. Thomas is a junior at Boston College, and Elizabeth is a senior at Leigh High School. My extended family (parents, sister, and brother) all live in the South Bay Area as well.
What do you like to do when you are not at school?
I am a huge walker and hiker! I make sure to take time to walk every day, rain or shine, hot weather or cool. My family & I are also avid skiers and enjoy Tahoe winters (and summers too!)
