Great season for the HT Mountain Bike Team - Second Place! Way to go Huskies!

Congratulations to HTHS students Travis Gunn and Eli Greene!

For the third time in as many years, a team from the Hewitt-Trussville Engineering Academy has placed on the world stage of the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Phoenix, Arizona.

Travis Gunn and Eli Greene’s project, Renewable Power Trekking Pole for Green Electric Generation in Extreme Outdoor Locations, won 3

rd

place in the Physical Energy Category of the world’s biggest science and engineering fair. Their project was judged by international experts in their field.

To put this into perspective:

  • There were approximately 1,800 projects with participants from 70 countries.

  • There were over 350 projects in their division.

  • There were over 7.5 million projects entered in science and engineering fairs throughout the world.

On a side note, a multimillionaire gave these guys his personal email address and phone number and told them that when they fine-tuned their project to give him a call.

I can't begin to express how proud I am of our team and their accomplishments. They represent the Engineering Academy, Mr. Dooley and myself, HTHS, and TCS with honor. This is what can happen when we inspire kids to do reach for the stars!
