Mustang Update
Week of May 15 - 19, 2023
Only two weeks left!!
Can you believe that we only have two more weeks left. However, teachers are not stopping. Teachers are continuing to teach their curriculum and grading assignments. This is not a time to slow down. Please speak with your child about behaviors and keeping up with their assignments in these last few days.
This past week we celebrated our teachers. Teacher Appreciation Week! Throughout the week we let our teachers know how much we appreciate all they do for our students and our community. PTO had many wonderful gifts for them including a luncheon on Friday, movie tickets and amazon gift cards. We are so thankful to have amazing teachers and truly want to thank our PTO for all your support.
It is complete. Ms. Fisher and many H. H. Poole students have been working all year on the The Poole Perspective. This is a literary magazine that students have contributed, stories, poems, essays and many other elements. We are very excited to share this with you and are very proud of all of our student that have worked tirelessly to create this amazing work of art.
On Thursday, May 24, our PTO will have one last bash for our 8th graders. Starting during their 4th block elective class, PTO will have their annual "Poole Party" to celebrate our 8th graders moving on to high school. The PTO will be looking for donations as well as parent volunteers to make this all happen. It will be an amazing time. We hope you can join us for the festivities.

It has been an honor to serve as your PTO President for the last two years, and I look forward to continuing to participate as a member of the PTO General Membership next year. Thank you for all of your contributions as members of the PTO; it is because of you that we have been able to host so many successful events and pursue so many different initiatives. I wish you all a safe and fun summer break, and look forward to seeing many of you again in the fall.
All the best,

Outgoing PTO President
VAPE Presentation
Dear Mustang Families,
We wanted to share with you that our Counseling Department and School Resource Officer are collaborating on a presentation about vaping, nicotine and marijuana this week during PE on Thursday, May 11th and Friday, May 12th. The purpose is to bring awareness about the dangers of vaping, nicotine and marijuana and how it negatively impacts their developing bodies and brains. The presentation will discuss the health and safety risks, Virginia laws and penalties associated with violating the related laws, and strategies they can use for staying safe.
We thought that this was an important topic to discuss with our middle schoolers as we prepare to go into the summer months. There has been an increase in teenagers experimenting with these behaviors, due to the fact that they appear to have attractive scents such as florals or fruit flavors and it appears to be less harmful than using tobacco or other substances. It is our goal to bring awareness to the realities of these behaviors and to discourage students from experimenting with it and to encourage students to make more positive and healthy choices for their bodies and their minds.
