Notes from the Principal
…and we’re off!!!!
Well, August is now in the rear view mirror and the cooler weather, (I hope), of Fall looms before us. This has been a wonderful start to the school year. I want to thank everyone who has contributed to such a great school start. This includes, teachers, office staff, custodians, TAs, parents, and students. Boone truly is a magical place and it takes contributions from all of us to make things go.
Back to School Nights Reminder:
Just a reminder that our annual Back-to-School Nights will be held on the following dates: PK – grade 2 will be tonight, Thursday, Sept. 5, from 6-7pm. Back to School Night for grades 3-5 will be on Tuesday, Sept. 10, from 6-7pm.
This time is for meeting the teacher, getting to know the room, and for the teacher to share any important information regarding their class. We will begin promptly at 6:00pm each night in the teacher’s classroom.
Campus Advisory Council seeking new members for the 2019-20 school year
The Boone Campus Advisory Council is looking for 2-3 new parents to fill roles on the CAC. We meet on the third Monday of each month from 3:20 –4:20 pm. The role of the CAC is to provide support and guidance over various school related topics and plans. Parent input is extremely valued at Boone and this is an important part of what keeps Boone great.
An application for the CAC is attached to this newsletter. Please complete the application and submit it to the main office. The CAC will be reviewing the applications and voting on new members at our September meeting. If you have any additional questions, please contact me directly at 512-414-5311.
Updated Nutrition Guidelines
There have been some changes and updates to the District’s nutrition and food policies for this school year. We would appreciate your help in following these guidelines.
Food in the Classroom
- Campuses may not serve/provide access to foods of minimal nutritional value (FMNV) and all other forms of candy at any time anywhere on school premises until the end of the last scheduled class. Exempt days no longer exist in the district Wellness Policy. Campuses should comply with the policy every day. We can no longer allow candy or other non-nutritional snacks for school parties, etc.
Birthday Celebrations
- If necessary, parents may bring items to celebrate their child’s birthday; however, they cannot be provided to students in the cafeteria during meal service times. In addition, since campuses may not serve/provide access to foods of minimal nutritional value (FMNV) and all other forms of candy at any time anywhere on school premises until the end of the last scheduled class, all birthday celebrations and treats will not occur or be provided until the very end of school that day.
School Lunches
- A parent can only bring lunch to their own student. You may not bring lunch to students who are not your children. Food or beverages cannot be provided to students anywhere on campus 30 minutes before to 30 minutes after meal serving times.

Counselor's Corner
Students in 3rd-5th grade are eligible to be screened for Gifted and Talented (GT) and Talent Explore (TE) in Austin ISD through a nomination and screening process. All campuses in Austin ISD provide screening, identification, and services for Gifted and Talented students. Additionally, students screened for Gifted and Talented who are not identified for GT services are automatically considered for Talent Explore. Talent Explore identification is for high ability students who do not qualify for Gifted and Talented but demonstrate potential to perform at high levels when grouped with Gifted and Talented students. Students may be identified through the screening process in one or more of the following areas:
- GT STEM (science and mathematics),
- GT Humanities (language arts and social studies),
- Talent Explore STEM (science and mathematics), or
- Talent Explore Humanities (language arts and social studies).
If you would like to nominate your child for the gifted and talented program, please email or turn in the Elementary Parent Nomination Form & Survey to the school counselor or your child’s teacher from September 9-20.
The Elementary Parent Nomination Form & Survey can be found on AISD’s Gifted and Talented Program website. https://www.austinisd.org/advanced-academics/gifted
