National History Day 2023
Congratulations to all our National History Day students who competed in the North Puget Sound Regional History competition on Saturday, March 18th. Students participated in historical performances, documentaries, and exhibits that related to the theme "Frontiers in History." The regional competition had nearly 300 students across 13 schools and two Skyview students are headed to State! Congratulations to Oviya Raja, 8th grade, for her documentary, "The Panama Canal: Carving a Path Through the Frontie," and Jerry Qu, 6th grade, for his performance: "Frontiers in History: Pericles." Once again, congratulations to all our student historians!

Ramadan
Ramadan is an Islamic religious observance and is expected to begin at sundown on March 22nd and end on April 21st this year. It is possible that Northshore's practicing Muslim students will fast, including no food or drink, from dawn to dusk through the duration of this observance. The following ideas are ways that we can support our Muslim students during Ramadan.
Prayer, and praying during the times that students need to, is important for Muslims who observe Ramadan. Please respect the windows that students may need to step away from classes or activities.
Be sensitive to the fact that students who fast will not be able to participate in assignments that involve the consumption of foods or liquids during classes or activities.
Keep in mind that a student’s energy may fluctuate over the course of the month-long duration of Ramadan.
Provide students with alternative activities if class or extra-curricular activities require any type of physical activity.
Remember that not all Muslim students fast during Ramadan. Please do not assume that a student is fasting or ask them why they aren’t fasting.
You can click here for more information about Ramadan.
At Skyview Middle School, students wanting a different location during the lunch period have access to the library (all 3 lunches) and Mrs. Subcleff's Room (F119) (during 3rd lunch only), counseling conference room (Wednesday and Thursday).
We remain committed to ensuring that all Northshore students feel seen, valued, included, and supported. Ramadan Mubarak to all of our students, families, and community members who will be observing Ramadan.

NSD Cricket Tournament Registration is Open
The Northshore School District is excited to announce the second annual Northshore Cricket Tournament, with games taking place in late April through mid-May. Cricket is a game that is commonly played by students from and in India, Pakistan, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, West Indies, South Africa, and more. The sport is becoming increasingly popular to the point that clubs have formed across the United States, including men’s and women’s U.S. National teams. In response to family requests, in June 2022, we offered the first Northshore Cricket Tournament, with nearly 200 middle and high school students participating. While it is not an official District sport at this time, staff are discussing this option for the future. This year, we will once again offer a free tournament after Spring Break in the same format as last year, which includes:
Each student plays in at least two matches;
Matches take approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes, from 5-8:30 p.m.;
Matches will take place on fields at Leota Middle School or Skyview Middle School; and
Divisions for students with experience (hard ball) and less or no experience (tennis ball) will be available.
Due to high interest, the tournament is open for ONLY MIDDLE and HIGH SCHOOL students this year.
This tournament is meant to give all players a positive experience playing Cricket. We want to emphasize that this tournament is for fun and not a competition. We are excited to give you the opportunity to participate in scheduled games and enjoy playing Cricket with other students in our Northshore community. Games are tentatively scheduled for late April through mid-May 2023. Please complete the registration and informed consent form by Friday, March 31 to be included in this tournament.
We are planning to host a kick-off event and coaching session for all participants. The date and time for this kick-off and coaching session will be late April, with exact details to be announced soon. The coaching session is intended for students who have never played Cricket or have little experience. All are welcome to attend.
Please review the registration form and the rules associated with the tournament. We request that you read the rules and expectations carefully and commit to following them.
If you have questions, please contact Srinivas Khedam at skhedam@nsd.org.
SMS Technology Reminder
Please remind your student(s) not to attach stickers to their NSD issued devices. If you notice stickers on their Chromebooks, please assist them in removing the sticker(s).
Thank you in advance for teaming with us to make sure all students take proper care of NSD technology equipment.

Covid Cases
The Department of Health (DOH) requires schools to inform families and students of COVID-19 cases and potential outbreaks. This week, there were a total of 2 confirmed cases at our school. The accuracy of our data depends on self-reporting. Thank you for continuing to let the school know if your child tests positive for COVID-19. To view additional information, including school and district trends visit the District’s COVID-19 data dashboard. The dashboard is updated weekly on Monday evenings.
If your child is exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 please keep them home and test for COVID-19. Families can order free COVID-19 tests from the state. Together, we can keep our schools healthy and safe.
