Bilbo Baggins is an ordinary quiet hobbit until, Gandalf, the wizard comes to him with an adventure. Naturally Bilbo is not really interested in the adventure, but once the dwarves and Thorin show up it's kind of a done deal. Throughout the journey to reclaiming the Lonely Mountains Bilbo faces lots of conflicts and often has to be helped out, but eventually he steps out of is comfort zone and becomes the hero. Bilbo leads Thorin and the dwarves to reclaiming the Lonely Mountains, and gains all respect from everyone.
- Gandalf: "All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us."
- Gandalf: "The world is not in your books and maps. It's out there."
- Thorin: "If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world."
- Gandalf: "What do you mean? Do you wish me a good morning, or mean that it is a good morning whether i want it or not; or that you feel good this morning; or that it is a morning to be good on."
Bilbo begins as a timid hobbit who stays in his hole, but he develops into a hero by the end of the story.
THE ORDINARY WORLD
Despite Bilbo's family history, he is much like the ordinary hobbit who enjoys parties, food, and comforts; Bilbo lives a simple, quiet, and predictable life.
THE CALL TO ADVENTURE
Gandalf puts a message on Bilbo's door stating that he is a burglar available from adventure.
REFUSAL TO THE CALL
In the beginning Bilbo had no interest in going on an adventure.
MEETING WITH THE MENTOR
Gandalf is an old friend of Bilbo's and he plays a central role in getting the Adventure started.
CROSSING THE THRESHOLD
The morning after Bilbo met Thorin and the dwarfs, Gandalf pushed him out of his home. This kinda represents Bilbo being pushed out of his comforting world and put into the world of adventure and risk.
TESTS, ALLIES, ENEMIES
Bilbo's first test was stealing from the trolls and is later tested with the goblins, Gulum, spiders, and wood-elves each revealing something about how he will accomplish he main task(against Smaug). Along the Journey the eagles, Beorn, the wood-elves, and the humans of Laketown all became allies.Bilbo came across enemies in Goblin Cave and the forest of Mirkwood.
Bilbo follows the elves into the liar and he hides the dwarves in barrels that float down the river to Laketown.
The dwarves almost die in the barrels, but they emerge ready to reclaim Lonely Mountain as their own.
Bilbo finds the ring and gets the trolls' sword, and also gets the get of confidence.
THE ROAD BACK
After being freed Bilbo and the dwarves read the map and travel to the secret entrance to claim the gold.
Smaug attacks but Bilbo passes Smaug's weakness to Bard who kills him.
RETURN WITH THE ELIXIR
The battle of "Five Armies". Bilbo gains respect from Thorin and the dwalves.
