Elementary Principals – The following message was sent to your campus secretaries from Kathy Creek.
For students in the following special programs:
· Active Learning
· Practical Academics
· Structured Learning
…you may assign them to the Special Ed teacher for homeroom attendance purposes. If you do not have the appropriate homeroom code available (AL, PA, SL), please let Kathy Creek know and she will set it up. The Special Ed teacher will be responsible for taking attendance for these students each day. This should help cut down on any confusion there may be between regular ed classroom teachers and SpEd teachers as to whether the students are present on a particular day or absent.
These students are not included in your 22:1 classroom limit counts, and hopefully having them in a unique homeroom will help you better keep track of those classrooms that are getting close to the cap.
Attention Administrators!
Given our goal to assess and treat our learners in Coppell ISD using a multidisciplinary team, we here at Intervention Services would like to provide the opportunity for you and your staff to know and better understand your campus Special Education team. Our LSSP, Amber Lindbeck, has created a presentation to share with each campus. Ms. Lindbeck will be contacting you to schedule a block of time during your upcoming faculty meetings. Please keep this in mind as you prepare and finalize your scheduling.

- utilizes business and industry specific technologies;
- fosters meaningful relationships between learners, educators, and the community;
- prepares learners for college and careers;
- promotes self-advocacy and ownership of learning; and
- provides authentic and relevant learning experiences.

SSI LETTERS FOR FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL (GRADES K-8)
Grades 5 and 8: The brochures for 5th and 8th have still not been received.
AWARE – ELEMENTARY LEVEL
Currently, educators at the elementary level will be unable to view their learners in AWARE. As soon as schedules are attached to educators in PEIMS, learners will be visible. This process should be completed by the end of the week. I’m getting many work orders and would like to spread the word, so please share this information with your educators. I appreciate their desire to get the “big picture” on their learners right away – quite impressive!
MAP
Training: Please email me the date/time your campus MAP training will take place. Thank you!

iExplore Educators
The educators creating and facilitating the iExplore course at our three middle schools are in need of approximately 30 copies of the Game of Life board game. Please share this request with your staffs. If anyone has a copy they will allow us to use, they can contact me at dharrell@coppellisd.com and I will come pick it up from those educators and return it after iExplore is done with it. Thank you for assisting us in getting this new course off the ground.

Mathematics: Mary Kemper
Elementary
I have asked each of the Elementary Math Content Specialists to volunteer to host one of the monthly meetings. The responsibility of the host is to secure a location (possibly her own classroom) and welcome us in. This year, we will work to build mathematics content knowledge, with an emphasis on our TEKS. In addition, we plan to identify and capture exemplars, providing opportunities for educators to peek into others’ classrooms and learn from one another.
I have had the opportunity to purchase manipulatives that are explicitly listed in our Revised (2012) Math TEKS. A sampling of these will be distributed to all Elementary campuses in September through the Content Specialists – be on the lookout for meter sticks, protractors, measuring tapes, and more!
Last week, each Elementary campus received 10 sets of non-fiction Mathematics Readers from Teacher Created Materials. Each set contains 6 copies of the reader and a corresponding lesson guide. Kindergarten, first, second, and third grades each received 2 sets while fourth and fifth each received one set. The educators received these at the district staff development day on August 20 and were very excited about this new addition to their Literacy Library!
Secondary
Last week, each Middle School campus received more Interactive Number Lines from Educators Outlet for grade 6 math teachers. The educators received these at the district staff development day on August 21 and were very excited about this new addition to their classroom! These number lines are well suited to support the first unit in the course – Number Sense.
MATH 180 Training will be held September 3, 2014 & September 10, 2014 (8:00 am – 3:00 pm) in Brock Training Room 1 for those middle school educators utilizing this program. This new resource will help us support our learners as they prepare for Algebra I.
In September, Geometry educators will receive a variety of tools for their classrooms including compasses, protractors, rulers, patty paper, and giant graph paper. I was able to purchase a limited number (but quite a few!) of these materials which will be distributed as needed among the Geometry educators at the three middle schools, CHS, and NTH@C.
Liaisons
If you have not already done so, please click on the following link and complete the questions and submit. This information will be given to your liaison.
