UPCOMING STAAR TESTS
Fifth grade students are scheduled to take the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) tests in Math on March 29, 2016 and in Reading on March 30, 2016. Fourth grade students are scheduled to take STAAR Writing on March 29, 2016.
There are several things that you can do to help your child be successful on this test.
· Make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep the night before the test.
· Prepare a healthy breakfast for your child on the morning of the test.
· Have your child arrive at school on time that morning to avoid feeling rushed.
· Send a snack with your student to have during the testing. (Non-messy snacks are best)
· Do not schedule any medical appointments for your child on test day.
· Please do not plan to eat lunch with your child on test day.
· Finally, send your child to school with a hug and words of encouragement.
Please note, cell phones are not allowed in the classroom during testing. Thank you for your support in preparing your student for the STAAR test. Please contact me if you have any questions.
We will also have a closed campus on testing days, meaning no visitors are allowed for lunch on:

Smith Dads,
You can still sign-up for a WatchDOG experience this school year by clicking this link: www.sagepoint.com/SmithWatchDogs2015-16 WatchDOGS are a big help at Smith! Just this week we had some AMAZING Dads on campus. Thank you to all the WatchDOGS who have participated already this year! Your dedication has not gone unnoticed. Dads have been a huge help in the cafeteria and at recess. Fathers get to enjoy some time hanging out with their own children at lunch and recess and sometimes specials too! Dads have also done odd jobs around campus and helped in the front office. Some days are busier than others, but all days spent at the school are rewarding. You will be so glad that you sacrificed a day to spend at your child’s school! If you have any questions about the program, please email our Top Dog, Greg Davidson @ SmithWatchDogs@hotmail.com
Parenting in the Age of Social Media
A Legal and Student Perspective
This session will build on powerful conversations from February, delving deeper into the world of social media and its impact on young people.
We’ll hear directly from students about their experiences, as well as from law enforcement officers who investigate online crimes and work to catch child predators before they find potential victims.
All Frisco ISD parents and students are encouraged to attend together. Learn how to keep the lines of communication open regarding the use of social media and discover strategies to keep your child safe.
Please RSVP to Dr. Larry Lewis at lewisl@friscoisd.org or 469.633.6703.

Kindergarten Round Up
Each April, Frisco ISD elementary schools host registration for students entering kindergarten the following school year. To attend kindergarten, students must be five years of age or older on or before September 1.
This early registration process gives parents information to ease the transition into kindergarten and assists the District in planning for enrollment growth and staffing needs. Please take advantage of this opportunity to register your child!
· April 4-8, 2016
9 AM to 2 PM daily
Extended hours will be available Tuesday, April 5 until 7 PM
· To participate in Kindergarten Round-Up, parents should first fill out an online registration form with basic information regarding their child. Please check the FISD Website on Monday, March 28, 2016, for the link to pre-register your child.
In addition, parents should complete the Kindergarten Placement Form in English or Spanish prior to Kindergarten Round-Up. This document should be completed, printed and brought to the school.
·
Parents will be asked to present the following original documents, as well as copies of the following documents, to finalize the registration process. Please bring these documents with you to the school.
· Certified Copy of Birth Certificate (Birth Certificate Requirement Form)
· Social Security Card
· Immunization Records (View requirements)
· Proof of Residency (View acceptable documents)
· Driver’s License of Enrolling Parent
