CTE Prime
Jozylyn Slivinkski, Delcastle 11th grade Business Tech student, is a national semifinalist in a competition sponsored by NASA, Future Engineers, and Battelle Education to name the Mars 2020 Rover. Jozlyn’s entry, Aspire, has been selected to represent Delaware in the high school division of the contest. The winner will be announced on February 18th. Jozlyn was interviewed by WDEL and the interview will run in Monday morning’s news block and will also be featured on WDEL’s website sometime Monday as well.
Mr. Jamai Robinson, Howard’s Academy of Finance teacher, is one of 13 to win the University of Delaware’s Horn Entrepreneurship (HE) for a project developed by his Academy of Finance students to reopen the school store. Part of the project was to develop a business plan, which they presented to their Bank of America mentors who work directly with them. The mentors were so impressed with the plan that they agreed to provide the start-up funds for the launch of the school store. The school store is scheduled to open February 4th.
Weekly Brief
1. Paraprofessional contract negotiations will begin in the next couple of months. Gerald will be finalizing the district team soon.
2. Thanks to Andy, Kathy, and Dave King for their hard work in researching and selecting a new website provider. I realize I'm probably not mentioning everyone that helped out, but I am grateful for everyone who contributed to the selection and ultimately those who will help build the new site.
3. I continue to serve on the Wilm. City Advisory Council meeting. This work is devoted to ending the violence among youth in the city of Wilmington.
4. We had our second Athletic Advisory Council meeting. This group is comprised of Athletic Directors, Assistant Principals, Gerald, and myself. We cover everything from facilities to how much admission fees into games should be.
5. We selected a new district email signature line banner (see below). This is a part of our continuing effort to standardize the brand of our school district, we will be using this image below in the district’s email signature for all emails sent externally.
The image clearly describes what we do best for students and is easy to understand. People take notice when they see the same unique brand repeatedly, which furthers public recognition of our purpose.
Schools will use a similar banner, but will have their crest instead of the district crest. They are currently in production.
Up Ahead: New Semester
1. Start of the 3rd Marking Period and 2nd semester.
Take the Time to Climb: Principle M -- Management
“The best executive is the one who has sense enough to pick good men to do what he wants done, and self-restraint to keep from meddling with them while they do it.” – Theodore Roosevelt
Going Beyond...
At administrative council we talked about the concept of Paint Done... “paint done” creates space for input from all parties. It ”unearths stealth expectations and unsaid intentions, and it gives the people who are charged with the task tons of color and context,” she writes. “It fosters curiosity, learning, collaboration, reality-checking, and ultimately success.”
