A Message from the Principal
March 19, 2021
Good evening, Mt Tabor MS Families,
Before we get into conversation about hybrid and CDL options, I wanted to take an opportunity to acknowledge the recent hate crimes targeted toward Asian and Pacific Islanders in recent days and our outrage at these horrific events. These targeted acts of violence shake me to my core, and I want to make sure that both our students and families know that we strive daily to make sure that our own MTMS community--one that is richer for our diversity--is one that is safe and respectful for all of our students. I send my personal love our to our Asian and Pacific Islander families as our community grieves these acts and grows in ways to actively combat racism in its many forms. You in my heart and in my thoughts.
The transition to a hybrid model of education is at the forefront of many of our minds this week, and believe me when I say that making a choice about the type of education that is right for your children and your families in regard to needed support, health impacts, and other conditions is monumental.
All of your families should have received a message from research@pps.net this week with some generic details of the hybrid model for Grade 6-8 and your child's individual link to communicate your preference. Please make sure to check all of your inboxes for the link (including junk mail) to make sure you have received it. If you did not, please complete this form and a member of the MTMS staff will email you the correct survey link directly. Survey responses are due on Sunday, March 21, and staff will be following up with families to ensure that we have heard from all of you regarding your preferences.
Many of you have reached out (either on the Facebook group to to my email directly) asking questions about what both the hybrid and CDL instructional schedules will look like here at MTMS. Now that the district and the teacher's association have come to agreement, I can share a bit more about the details. Please note that by no means are we completely done with our building level plans...we are working as quickly, thoughtfully, and collaboratively as possible through these decisions to ensure that all of our students, whether they remain in CDL or return to campus as part of hybrid, receive a quality academic and social experience.
To learn more about the specifics, I have recorded a video presentation and linked a slide deck below that goes over as many of the details as I have at the ready. I hope that it covers your biggest questions. Please note that we will also be focusing our Tabor Talks on April 6-7 on the more specific elements of our educational model for Quarter 4 so that parents and students know what to expect.
I wish you all a lovely spring break with your families, and look forward to sharing more with you about these big and amazing changes when we all return on Monday, March 29.
All the best,
Ms. Tonya Arnold
Principal, Mt. Tabor Middle School

Meal Distribution Updates
We want to make you aware of some important updates and upcoming changes to our meal service. Because of spring break, meal service will be paused next week (March 22-26). Please be sure to stop by one of our current meal distribution sites on Friday, March 19, between 3:00 and 4:30 p.m. to pick up seven days’ worth of meals to cover spring break.
With the upcoming transition to hybrid learning, the last day for home meal delivery will be Friday, March 19. The PPS Nutrition Services department is incredibly thankful for their partnership with the PPS Student Transportation department over the last nine months to make this offering possible for our students and families.
Meal service will resume with new locations and service times the week of March 29. We will share more information about the new locations and services times soon. Whether your child participates in the hybrid learning model or continues with distance learning, school meals will remain free for all students in all schools, regardless of eligibility. No student ID, names or other information is needed to receive meals.

Do you have something to contribute to the MTMS community?
The PTA is continuing to recruit board members for the next school year. We have the volunteers required to operate the PTA (President, Secretary, and Treasurer), but we still need YOUR help. We would love to have some volunteers to fill the remaining roles, so we can have a strong PTA next year. We like to fill positions before the end of the school year, so we are prepared, but there is no work over the summer. We plan our first meeting in August just before school starts. We have the following open positions for the 2021/2022 school year:
- Vice President/Fundraising Coordinator
- Volunteer Coordinator
- Student Store and Bottle Drop Coordinator
- Hard of Hearing Program Representative
- Japanese Language Program Representative
- Spanish Language Program Representative
