St Bernadette's Primary School
NEWSLETTER | TERM 1 | WEEK 8 | 25 March 2022
Message from Geordie
Good afternoon
I will try to keep this short again as there is a lot of extra info attached relating the current COVID situation.
Today our students celebrated Harmony Day at school and our Cultural Ministry have done an awesome job of making a fun day for the students. We have seen some very creative costumes and the students are in good spirits, which has been great to see.
This week has been a big week for many families here at St Bernie’s and I really hope everyone is ok! Those at home in quarantine or isolation, I hope you are able to find some fun and that the home learning materials are keeping the students engaged in their work. As you will see from the exact numbers below, we are now at a point where we have very high case numbers and we are doing our best to juggle the demands of home learning and face-to-face classes in every year level.
I would also like to again thank our community for their support – while I know everything isn’t perfect, I can’t thank you enough for reading all the info and doing your bit to keep the community safe. Thanks to our Year 4 Red parents for being so supportive when we had to go to remote learning for the rest of the week and to all our Year 1 parents who acted so quickly when we had cases early this morning.
I urge parents to keep in touch, if you need to discuss something with the class teacher, admin or our leadership team, we are here and will do our best to get back to you as soon as we can.
Finally, just to remind everyone about the end of day routine. Parents are able to collect their students from class from 2.45pm as this helps spread out the rush in the afternoon. From 2.55 - 3pm our teachers start to leave classes to go out to the front gate. This is to make sure the drive-through runs as smoothly as possible for parents. We would really appreciate it if parents can try not to take kids earlier than this as it is quite disruptive for teachers who are trying to get through their lessons. This goes for all times of the day, if you can try to make appointments outside of school time it really helps teachers out. Having said this, we do understand there are some things that can’t be helped!
Stay safe and enjoy the weekend

Information & FAQ regarding COVID
Covid -19 Update
This week in COVID News…........St Bernadette’s currently has 46 ongoing positive cases across the school. I would like to again thank our community for being so supportive and vigilant and while there is still a rocky road ahead, we will continue to work in partnership with parents to keep our students safe and happy.
This news should come as a timely reminder for all members of the community to monitor COVID-19 symptoms and seek testing if symptoms develop.
Advice for all families and staff:
- The school remains open.
- We ask that you monitor your child/yourself for symptoms of COVID-19 and get tested and isolate until you receive a negative result if symptoms develop.
- If you or your child develop symptoms, please do not attend school.
- Please note that the Omicron strain can present with less typical symptoms such as diarrhoea, particularly in children.
Our school continues to work in partnership with WA Health as we respond to the pandemic.
If you have queries or concerns regarding your child please contact me. If you have health concerns, please contact WA Health on 1300 316 555 or at ncovcontact@health.wa.gov.au.

Children's University
It is with much pride and excitement to report that St Bernadette’s C.P.S has been granted the opportunity to be part of the Children’s University for 2022. The Children’s University is an innovative program run in conjunction with ECU and UWA that engages children and young people in exciting, out-of-school learning opportunities to increase their chances for educational achievement and rewards them for taking responsibility for their own learning.
While we would have loved to include all interested students in this exciting initiative, we had over 85 students from Years 4-6 apply for one of only 25 places that our school was allocated for this year’s program. It is anticipated that this program will be a great success and that more places will become available to more students in future years.
Congratulations to the 25 students who will soon be embarking on their own independent learning journeys with the Children’s University.
