Raureka School Term 2 Week 10

Newsletter 7 July 2021

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Kia ora koutou katoa, Talofa lava, Kia orana,

Here we are in the last week of Term 2, this term has just flown by.

It has been a very busy term with lots of exciting things happening. We were fortunate to have Keeping Ourselves Safe, Safe Cycling/ Scootering, Duffy Theatre, Duffy Book handed out, Leadership Conference, Matariki, Junior trip to Pakowhai, Disco and of course winter sports starting for netball, rugby and hockey.

I am so proud of the effort put in by the tamariki and our staff for developing an exciting learning programme for the children.

We are having a Powhiri tomorrow morning for new families to welcome them to Raureka. This will become an annual event.

On Friday we will have a mufti day - children please bring a gold coin proceeds to go towards the RSS.

I would also like to thank Whaea Jane for stepping into Room 1, when Mrs Henderson left us, and teaching the children this term. She has been absolutely fantastic and has worked really hard to provide an excellent learning programme for the children. Whaea Jane will be missed although she will be back relieving for us I'm sure.

Mr Zach Severinsen will be in Room 1 for next term as he joins our team.

We wish Mrs Hanson all the best as she is off for the next few weeks as she had an operation yesterday. She will be away for at least four weeks in Term 3. Mrs Williams will take over the running of the class in her absence.

Thank you to everyone who came and took part in our three way conferences on Monday and Tuesday. Conferences are a great opportunity to talk with the teacher and find out how your child is getting on and to find ways to help support your child.

Exciting times ahead!!!

Our school production Raureka, My Home - Ko Raureka taku kainga is planned for the 28th September (last week of the term 3).

This will include all children and will be held at Toi Toi - The Hawkes Bay Arts and Events Centre. The teachers are busy planning this exciting event for our children. If you are interested in helping with costumes, props or have a talent we don’t know about please contact Rose Doolan on 021751407.

Tickets will be sold for the event and they will be $10 each to cover the venue hire and use of sound equipment etc. Tickets will go on sale nearer the time

Next term we will also have Mr Murray Gadd back to work with staff and children to further enhance our teaching of writing. Murray will also run a parent evening on Thursday 19th August to show parents how they can help children with writing at home.

Thank you to everyone who ordered donuts through the RSS, they were delivered on Friday. They were superb. Thanks to the RSS for organising this.

Please remember that classes start at 8:55 a.m. each day and all children should be at school, unless they are sick, ready to start then. When the children arrive on time they do not miss out on valuable learning time and they feel as though they haven't missed anything. Keep in mind too that when children arrive late it can be hard on their classmates as after an interruption - some children struggle to refocus on the lesson.

  • phone/cellphone numbers changed?
  • living arrangements changed?
  • emergency contacts changed?
  • medical details?

Medical Reminders

We often have a few ‘bugs’ around the school.

· A common one is a nasty cough/flu type illness. Keep your children home if they have symptoms of this as it spreads easily.

· If your child has had vomiting or diarrhoea, they MUST stay home for 2 days after the last event. This illness definitely spreads quickly around the school.

· Headlice are always around so make sure that you check your child’s hair regularly (we suggest weekly) and treat the hair if necessary. We have treatments available from school for free. Just pop in and we can give you some.

· If your child is at all unwell, please keep them home so that they don’t pass bugs on to other children. Also if a child is feeling unwell they are not able to learn easily and are much better off at home snuggled up in bed.

Don’t forget to contact the school office to let us know when your child is unwell please.

Volunteers needed for supervision of our school patrollers. The children are well trained, it is just a matter of having an adult supervise from 8.30-9.00. We need help on the following days - Front Gate: Wednesday, Friday, Back Gate: Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday.
