Robert Hackenson - Social Media Land Mines
As we learned from Spiderman, with great power comes great responsibility. Social media is a powerful too, but unfortunately people don't always post responsibly. Sometimes as a result of posting without thinking, students post some things they later regret. This include sexting, getting in legal trouble, posts that hurting their image or could result in losing existing or potential jobs, and even social media addiction anxiety. This presentation focuses on all of these important topics:
- How are you perceived through your online profiles and posts?
- Who's Looking at your posts?
- Social Media Addiction & Anxiety
- Cyber Bullying and/or Threats
- Internet Saftey (Predators using what you post)
- Sexting
This event will also count for joint council for the month of October. Also, counting for Grand Chapter points since it would be considered a workshop topic (social media and public relations). This event is open to everyone, but if you are a member of the Greek Community and would like to receive points for Grand Chapter click the link below and pre-register for the event.

October 15th-25th
During this time-frame, ACBU's Facebook page will be posting a collection of photos of individual students holding a dry erase board sharing facts about themselves that may dispel one or several stereotypes of their own race, gender, religious affiliation, ect. Please see the photo below for an example of what the campaign is modeled after.
The goal of this photo campaign will help to create a campus community that is more willing and able to break down societal stereotypes. Since the social media campaign has the same mission as our upcoming program NWC: The Race Show, this social media campaign will also be promoting this upcoming event. (For those who haven't seen this program, NWC is a theatrical show that openly addressed racial slurs and stereotypes, delves into their impact on the actors' development and ends with uniting us as the one, human race. More details can be founds at nwclive.com. NWC: The Race Show takes place on Sunday, October 25, in the Coliseum at 7pm.)
If you would be willing to be a part of this campaign and help us to breakdown stereotypes on Bradley's campus, all we need you to do is a few simple things:
- Email your availability to mclauss@mail.bradley.edu to set up a time to take your photo in the Student Activities office.
- Be prepared with three descriptors of yourself that might dispel a stereotype or two that you face. If you would like to dispel an identity that is not externally visible, please bring clothing/visual aids to communicate that identity.
- We'll create a schedule with when people's photos will be posted to ACBU's Facebook page, and share that with you. When your photo is posted on our page, please share it on your personal page to spread the awareness, but feel free to share others' photos, as well!
If you have any questions at all or recommendations of others we should reach out to to participate in this campaign, do not hesitate to follow-up via email.
The Red Cross Club will be hosting a blood drive on November 2nd and 3rd in the Markin Center. If you would like to donate make sure to stop by on either day from 12-5pm.

This months tips focus on do you "Know What to Do in Case of a Fire" and the full flyer can be found below.
