The Word

demise (noun) -- death, or the end of existence or operation of something

ONLY THINGS THAT CAN LIVE, BE PRACTICED AND/OR OPERATE CAN HAVE A DEMISE

Because the Federalists had expressed that they would rather secede from the Union altogether than remain at odds with their rival political party, the Democratic-Republicans, no longer could anyone trust that they would act in the best interest of the United States. Therefore, they were no longer a force in American politics, and the party completely disbanded in 1824.
