Itchy Head? Know the facts.
You can help deter the spread of lice by checking your child for signs of head lice or nits. Nits, or lice eggs, may be brown, light grey or white and are oval-shaped. They resemble dandruff or sesame seeds, but cannot be flicked or shaken off the hair strand easily. Remind your child not to borrow or loan hats, combs, brushes, headphones, or other personal items.
If head lice or nits are found, your child should be treated with a lice product available over the counter at any drugstore. Follow the product directions exactly. After the treatment, it is important to remove all nits. This can be done with a special lice comb, scissors or your fingernails. Your child may return to school when he or she is lice and nit free.
There are many misconceptions about head lice. Learn the facts at: https://www.cdc.gov/parasites/lice/head/gen_info/faqs.html
