Online Summer Courses

WCS High School Families,

Vanguard Virtual High School is offering four semester courses (for .5 credits each) this summer - PE II, Personal Finance, Psychology, and Sociology. The cost to enroll is $300 per course, and a student can take up to 2 courses over the summer. Students will have from June 1st through July 29th to complete the coursework and can work on the courses at a time of their choosing during that window. Although there are no in-person meeting requirements, students will be able to meet with their teachers via Zoom. These meetings will be scheduled individually when needed. Students who are interested in enrolling must have access to the internet and a device on which to complete the course work. If your child would like to check out a WCS Chromebook for the summer courses, families should contact the child’s school of enrollment at the end of the school year to help with that request. When students are outside of the United States, they will lose access to the WCS network.

During our summer session, students will be able to work asynchronously through our self-paced courses. However, teachers will provide students with a pacing guide for the coursework to help students manage the workload and complete it on time. For students who choose to work ahead, teachers will be able to help students pace their work to finish the course on a date of the students’ choosing. Students must complete the summer courses no later than July 29th.

Each of these summer courses are available to our current 9th – 11th grade students enrolled in a WCS High School. All online courses will receive the same type of grade and credit as given at the building for the respective course. PE II is a pass/fail course, and students only receive a P or an F. For Personal Finance, Psychology, and Sociology, number and letter grades will be awarded. Credit and the earned grade for each summer course will be reflected on the student’s Spring 2022 transcript. For questions regarding which course(s) is most appropriate for your child, please consult with your school counselor. If you are interested in registering your student for any of the four courses, please use the respective link below to sign up. To access these forms, students must be logged in to their school (myplace.wcs.edu) email account on the device you are using.

By completing the interest form, you are indicating your interest to enroll in the summer course(s). By mid-April, the final enrollment process will be open. We will email students who are on the interest form in the order in which we receive their responses. Those families will have the opportunity to complete the final registration form and complete the payment process.

Seats are limited, and students will be registered in the order in which their initial requests and payment are received. If more seats become available to those on a waiting list, an email will be sent regarding payment instructions at that time.

CHS Counseling Student Group Offerings

Ways to Engage Counseling

  1. STUDENTS:

    1. Students in crisis or with an emergent non-scheduling need can report to counseling anytime. If their counselor is not available, one of the other counselors on duty will be able to support them.
      • Students will need to sign in with Ms. Wilson, the counseling secretary.
      • Students will need a pass if they are coming from a class.
      • Afterwards, students will be given a pass back to class.
    2. If students have scheduling issues, the most efficient ways to meet with their counselor is to complete the change request form or schedule an appointment.
      • Students will need to email their counselor and provide their free/study hall/homeroom information.
      • Counselors will then respond an appointment confirmation.
      • Students will need to sign in with Ms. Wilson, the counseling secretary.
      • Students will need a pass if they are coming from a class.
      • Afterwards, students will be given a pass back to class.
    3. For college and career counseling:
      • Students will need to email their counselor and provide their free/study hall/homeroom information.
      • Counselors will then respond an appointment confirmation.
      • Students will need to sign in with Ms. Wilson, the counseling secretary.
      • Students will need a pass if they are coming from a class.
      • Afterwards, students will be given a pass back to class.
      • FYI: There will be Senior meetings for each student in the fall and Junior meetings available for each student in the spring.

The counselors would love to talk to students about their plans and help them navigate their journey!

    PARENTS:

    1. The most EFFICIENT way to meet with your student’s counselor is to schedule a meeting:

      • Meetings are available by phone, in person, or via Zoom.
      • Email your student’s counselor with your availability and they will get back with you to confirm a meeting time.
      • When you attend the meeting, you will need to sign in with the front office and then report to the counseling department.
      • Check in with Ms. Wilson, and she will inform your student’s counselor you have arrived.

You can expect a response to your emails and/or phone calls within 24 hours.
