It's a Great Day to Be Great!
Bessie Allen Middle School - SLO & Goals
Building SLO:
By June of 2015, 80% of students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade will show growth in their opinion writing sample rubric score from the September 2014 writing benchmark based on the school developed writing rubric (adapted from the Smarter Balanced writing rubric).
Building Goals:
DPI School of Recognition
PBIS School of Merit
Routinely Take Literacy Risks
Be a CEO
Driving Question for 2014-2015:
What have we changed with our instruction to prepare our students for the Badger Exam assessment (and other higher level thinking opportunities)?
Goals for SSR and SSW
- Provide a time for every student in our building to read and write.
- Ensure this time is a positive part of our students' day.
News and Notes
- STAR Data - Thank you for your help with administering the STAR assessments for our second window. We will continue to have discussions about this data and where to go from here. I'm proud of what I have seen so far. After this year, we will have a much better idea of how to analyze data from this assessment. STAR is also only one part of our balanced assessment system. It gives us one look into a student's success and our building success.
- Tech-Free Friday - We're going to make a change with Tech-Free Friday being optional for the rest of the school year. It has been going well to offer this to students, and they'll still have it as an option if they choose. From my observations, the majority of students aren't on their iPads at lunch.
- I will be out of the building for our next Pep Assembly on February 6th. We'll still run a Pep Assembly schedule and the Oriole Leaders will help to lead this event. Thank you Adam and Ginnie for supporting these students.
- Staff Meeting Date Change for February - I need to change the staff meeting on the Early Release day in February to February 18th instead. I will be out of the building on this day. We will only have one meeting this month due to P/T conferences the last week in February.
Out of the Office
- February 2nd - 1:45-2:35pm - Honor's Study Hall
- February 3rd - 9-11am - Admin Team Meeting - DMR
- February 6th - CESA 6 Badger Exam Training - all day
Oriole Way - Be Ready, Be Respectful, Be Safe
- We had 117 GREAT nomination forms for this month. Great month!
- I heard again this week from some of our students that adults are not handing out BAMS Bucks. I know I had a couple of days that I didn't hand out as many as I should have. Please reflect on where you are at with acknowledging positive behaviors in our building.
