ID Badges
ALL students must be wearing their ID and it should be visible at all times. Whether it be their school ID on a lanyard OR a temporary ID (sticker) badge, it MUST be worn.
If a student has lost their ID Badge, please replace it in the front office (it does cost money to replace an ID Badge).
If a student has forgotten their ID Badge, the consequence is last in line at lunch and no Snack Bar.
NEW
Students will be charged for an extensive number of temporary badges! Please be sure to use and wear your issued ID Badge.

Science
Hello Thunderhawks!
We wrapped up our unit on Hurricanes and Tornadoes this week and the students took an open-note quiz on Wednesday. The study guide for our Final Exam is posted on Canvas and students worked on it this week. Remember our final exam is Monday the 19th and there are no redos for the final exam! The final exam covers everything students learned so far this year; they may not use their study guide on the test.English
Hello Thunderhawks!
We have almost made it to the end of the first semester! As we inch toward finals week, we will be finishing up with a vocabulary activity using “Radium Girls”. Students will use context clues to determine the meaning of words used within the text, and then we will begin wrapping up to prepare for finals. The final exam study guide is linked HERE, and has been accessible to your student in Canvas all week. Our English final is Tuesday, December 20th.

Message for 6th Grade Principal
.
Thunderhawk Families,
This week wraps up the 6th graders first semester of middle school! I can’t see enough what a joy and blessing it is to work with each of our 6th graders. I’m very proud of the young individuals that we have at Heartland and I know the teachers would agree.
We will have a fun and packed three days.
Please remember that finals will be on Monday and Tuesday. It will be important that students are prepared with a charged Chromebook!
While we will still have class on Wednesday, there will be no new material or information. We will have our missing assignment incentive as well as our winter assembly in the afternoon.
We’re looking forward to our final three dress up days as well for Deck the Heartland Halls!
Monday: Dress for NYE (dress fancy!)
Tuesday: Ugly Christmas Sweater
Wednesday: Grade Level Color (6th Grade wears white!)
We have certainly seen a build up of excitement as we near winter break. I have also seen more stress and anxiety amongst our students. This is always to be expected, but I hope that everyone is able to take some time to relax, decompress, and do something that they truly enjoy over the break. I look forward to everyone returning refreshed and reenergized for the second semester.
Wishing you a beautiful holiday season and a new year filled with peace and happiness.
See you in 2023!

Counselor's Corner
It’s that time of the year when we are looking forward to our Christmas break, but first we have school and final exams. On top of the normal routines of practices and games, rehearsals and performances, there are often extra chores and shopping to do as well. Here are some ideas to help you de-stress and feel better towards the end of the semester:
Break your study time into small sessions with 5 - 10 minute breaks in between each. You will remember more and you will not be as tired as you would if you study for hours at a time.
Exercise is always helpful. Take your dog for a walk, lift some weights, do some sit-ups, squats, push ups….anything to get your heart beating and to give yourself a mental break.
I have always liked the breathing technique to help me decompress. Slowly breathe in through your nose counting up to 5 and then slowly breathe out through your mouth. Close your eyes and pay attention to your breathing. This is also a good time to have positive thoughts to help motivate you through the end of the semester. “I can do this!”
I hope this helps you and I wish for everyone to have a wonderful Christmas holiday!
