Wisconsin Mathematics League Competition

The Clintonville Middle School participated the Wisconsin Mathematics League Competition once again this year. Students in grades 6-8 competed in a rigorous contest of mathematics skills. The contest was held on February 24th.

This year’s Clintonville Middle School’s 7th grade team placed third among 42 other schools in Wisconsin. Holden Young’s score of 29 was fourth highest in the state. The 7th grade CMS team placed 1st in their region (Brown, Calumet, Sheboygan, Washington, Waupaca, Winnebago). The following students scores combined to contribute to Clintonville’s mathematics success. In parenthesis indicates their individual place in the state: Holden Young (4th), Caitlin Huber (8th), Dylan Danforth (11th), Jarren Wilke and Katie Lamberies (tied for 24th). They will receive a plaque in June to recognize their talent and hard work.

Career Fair 2015

This year’s event ran the same as years past but with a few updated, interactive activities to get the students more involved. The "Thank You for Asking" slips were placed in the exhibitor booklet each student received. Students were required to get three stamps per card before turning their cards into the raffle table for gift drawings. In addition, the fair focused specifically on the 16 Career Clusters identified by Wisconsin’s Department of Public Instruction (DPI).

WIse GUys UW Madison Trip!

The Wise Guys and the Wise Guys Mentors took a trip to UW Madison. We got a behind-the-scenes tour of the Kohl Center and Camp Randall that was enough to make most of the guys happy, but to meet some of the UW Badgers (of both football and basketball) was enough to make our guys go crazy. Meeting face-to-face with Leo Musso, Connor Udelhoven, Melvin Gordon, and Nigel Hayes (yes, THAT Nigel Hayes) was unbelievable. These four athletes took the time out of their day to have a positive impact on the lives of these 37 guys (and six coaches). Our guys were awe-struck and speechless. The highlight was probably the surprise meet-and-greet with Nigel Hayes that was followed by a mentor talk and autograph signing. To put these guys in front of one of their idols and listen to him talk about the importance of academics, teamwork, and how to create goals and build your dreams was truly an experience they will never forget. We then followed these tours up with a campus tour that got many of our guys thinking about life past high school and how to reach your college dreams. We had a fantastic day with the guys!

UW Madison Engineering Expo

Twenty-seven students from Clintonville Middle and High School attended the Engineering Expo at the University of Wisconsin Madison. They had the opportunity to tour the engineering campus, visit state of the art laboratories, view current discoveries and technologies, and talk with students and scientist who made those advances. Students were able to connect what they are learning in their current math, science and technology classes to the new inventions on display.

Earth Day Truckers!

Ms. Flannery's Academy students and the distance track team members took time to help clean up around the school for Earth Day. Students participated in this activity after learning about service learning projects and their positive impacts on the community.

Wise(r) Guys Playground Project

In the month of April, our Wise(r) Guys were approached by Play and Learn PreSchool to help out with a playground project. It turns out that the tire chips and the top of the fence were too close together. So, our guys came out one day (with some help from their high school mentors) and they raked off all of the tire chips. Our guys then came back a week later, after Play and Learn had dug out 6 inches of dirt, and we raked the tire chips back onto the playground. It was an awesome project for our guys to give back to. It helped the school and the kids the opportunity to use their playground again. Great job Wise(r) Guys! :)

After School Pickup

We ask that parents picking up their children after school in the side parking lot by the playground please remember to park in the back two rows of that parking lot. We have many children running between busses and have had several close calls. Please talk with your child and make sure they stay on the sidewalk until they reach the back of the parking lot. We appreciate your help as we try to keep our students safe.
