Job description
Horse grooms look after horses’ everyday needs and make sure they are healthy and in good condition. If you love horses and like practical, outdoors work, this job could be for you. You’ll need to have genuine interest in horses and their welfare. Being an organised person will also help you with daily routine tasks in the stables. You may not need any formal qualifications to find work as a horse groom. Experience of working with horses can be valued by employers and you can work towards relevant qualifications that may help you find work. You may be able to get into this job through an Apprenticeship scheme.
Qualifications
Often no formal qualifications are required to become a horse groom. However, a qualification in horse care is a definite advantage to anyone wanting to become a groom so the courses and qualifications below are relevant to anyone thinking of becoming a horse groom.
- BHS Stages 1-4 in Horse Knowledge, Care
- EQL Levels 1-4 Diploma in Horse Knowledge and Care
City & Guilds Diploma Horse Care Levels 1-3
Candidates must be 16 years old to take the above courses and qualifications
where you can work from
Horse groomers can work anywhere in the world as long and there are horses that are near them. it is preferred to live in between urban and rural planes to keep a close distance to both places.
What groomers are responsiable for
Groomers maintain the horses coat, mane, tail, and hooves to make sure they are clean and healthy. they also check to make sure the horse is eating right and that its stable is clean and has fresh shavings.
