Akin News 9/11
From the desk of Beckie Webster
Thank you for keeping the focus on student learning:
With over 900 students, the office is a busy place and Danielle Sinha and Terri Coleman are our right and left hand. We appreciate you both-your willingness to help, do what ever it takes to keep students safe and all at a moments notice. Thank you both for your endless dedication to our students, staff, and community-we appreciate you!
Thank you to Steve Lunceford for your hard work and dedication to safety patrol for our Aviators! By organizing this group each day gives our students the opportunity to live out our Soar Behaviors (flags, drop-off, safety in and outside the building). Thank you for being here early and ensuring our Aviators get this amazing opportunity! Thank you!

"We need all three-
Each form of feedback-appreciation, coaching and evaluation satisfies a different set of human needs.
Appreciation-motivates and encourages
Coaching-helps increase knowledge, skill, capability, growth or raises feelings in the relationship
Evaluation-tells you where you stand, aligns expectations, and informs decision making."
Thanks for the feedback as we will use this short 3 question survey to support you and our students! Please complete the survey above by Friday, Sept. 20th.

Who wants to win free $$$$$?
Faculty and staff can apply for $500 for continuing education (Kagan, David Langford, Technology, PLC, etc.) and there's $25,000 available state wide. Most grants & scholarships only receive a few applications so I would go ahead and apply. You'll need to be a member of PTA and will need to include the PTA president's name & email on the application (Kristina Swan and montaakinpta@gmail.com).
From the TX PTA website:
Texas PTA offers scholarships in an amount not to exceed $500 to teachers, teachers’ aides, or other faculty members planning to take college credit courses, workshops or other continuing education which improves the applicant’s teaching proficiency or applies to a specific education-related certification (includes middle management, administrator, counselor, etc.). These courses may include online and correspondence courses.

Reminders about portable safety
Few items to remember:
- Teachers sending 3rd grade students to/from the building must be with a buddy at all times.
If a parent is visiting the portables, they must come to the front office to obtain a visitor’s sticker before entering the portables.
Portables are locked at all times.
When parents drop off our students in the morning, please direct them to the cafeteria. Classroom teachers will pick up students in the cafeteria at 7:30am and escort them to the portables. If arriving after 7:30am, parents may drop off our students at the portables in the 3rd-5th student drop off area. If a student/parent arrives after 7:45am, please drop off our students in the front office.
Teachers will escort students, or students will walk with a buddy into the building with a security badge at all times.
Students attending SRP classes, Dyslexia classes, Special Education classes, QUEST classes, or any other class during the day will be met at the door/ramp by their teacher or walk with a buddy.
Inclement weather plans are in place and will be practiced throughout the year.
