Conference Week is next week... 10/21 - 10/25
All students will be dismissed at 12:55 PM October 21st through October 25th, for fall conferences. Please be sure your children go home at dismissal time, as there is no supervision available following bus departure. Make sure your children know how to get home when dismissed from school. Please be sure to call the school prior to 11:00 AM or send a note with your student on the conference days if the early dismissal time will cause your child’s after school arrangements to change. All children will eat lunch during the school day, so please provide a sack lunch or lunch money for your students. Please call the office if you have any questions. Thank you!
Healthy Active Me ~ PE news from Mrs. Ely and Mrs. Richards
October 2019
Dear SWE Families,
This has been a fabulous start to our year! For those of you who are new to Salem Woods, our PE team consists of Mrs. Ely (pronounced E-Lee). Mrs. Richards. We team teach Tuesday-Friday and Mrs. Ely is here alone on Mondays.
We would like to remind families how important it is to send your students to school on PE days wearing appropriate shoes and clothing. It is very difficult to fully participate if shoes fall off or don’t have good traction. The kids are required to stop and change direction quickly in many of our games. Cowboy boots and dress shoes make this difficult. Just as adults don’t go to the gym in slacks and heels, kids need to be in gym appropriate attire. There is a link in the newsletter that lists all class schedules for PE.
We are doing our FitnessGram testing during PE classes this week. All students have practiced these assessments and are now participating in the pre-test portion. Our K-2 students are still just practicing so that when they get to the 3-5th grade they will know how to do the tests. Fitness testing is used to assess the student’s current level of health and fitness as compared to a national standard. The goal is to help students see the value of regular physical activity and to encourage lifelong fitness. We do not grade our students on the result of the FitnessGram. We are required to give it each year and will be using the results to help the older students set realistic personal goals for their own fitness level and self-improvement is discussed with all grade levels.
PE Nights: Mark your calendars and see attached flyer for more information.
K-2 students come Thursday, November 7th
3rd-5th students come Thursday, February 6th
