Laker Anchor
September 11, 2022
Greetings, Laker Families-
We had an inspiring week of learning as a Laker community! Wednesday-Friday our staff and 1st-5th grade students moved throughout the school learning and practicing the PBIS Laker Way…being Safe, Respectful, Responsible, and what it looks like for ALL Lakers to Belong in every part of our school. Our Kindergarten students joined us Friday and also will be learning the Laker Way in their “Kindergarten way” this week. The school community is now complete, and we celebrated on Friday afternoon with popcorn provided by our PTA! The sound and smell of popping corn throughout the morning was a HUGE highlight for the students as they moved “safely, respectfully, and responsibly” from PBIS station to PBIS station.
You may have noticed that we have changed the name of our school newsletter to the Laker Anchor. As we move forward together as a community where "all Lakers belong," the communication we provide as a school is critical to ground us and ensure we have a united team for our students! The Laker Anchor will serve as a means to keep us all informed for that common purpose.
Today…
We pause to remember 9/11. There are many resources online as your family chooses how to navigate conversations about this historical event in our nation’s history. We honor our first responders for sacrificing and always being on the front lines to keep us safe.
Upcoming….
September 17 is designated as Constitution Day and Citizenship Day to commemorate the signing of the U.S. Constitution in Philadelphia on September 17, 1787.
October: National Disability Awareness Month
This is held each October to commemorate the many and varied contributions of people with disabilities to America's workplaces and economy.

September is National Hispanic Heritage Month and our Laker Purposefull People Character Trait is “Respect…Seeing good in people and things and treating them with care.” Your follow up at home reinforcing your child as he/she demonstrates “respect” each day would be a wonderful home-school connection. The background for our Laker Purposefull People Character Traits can be accessed through the Character Strong website. Thank you for raising such amazing children that desire to be Purposefull People and for your continued support of our school community.
