Dear Families,

It has been a busy few weeks as our students have been settling into new classroom routines, getting to know their teachers and classmates, and adjusting to being back to full in person learning after summer vacation. During the first couple of weeks, our teachers, support staff and paraprofessionals are focusing on building relationships with students, establishing routines and helping students acclimate to being in school after summer break. Our curriculum for the first 10 to 15 days has been dedicated to reviewing key skills from previous grade levels to prepare students for new learning, building expectations around growth mindset, strengthening organizational skills and fostering other habits-of-mind that lead to success with academics. Our beginning of year Social Emotional Curriculums, Open Circle and Second Step, focus on building skills around self-awareness, self management and strengthening relationships.

We are excited to be able to share more information about our schools, classrooms and special subject instruction during the upcoming Open House nights the schools are hosting. Please remember that Open House night is for providing general information to families about our school programs. Teachers are still getting to know your children and will not be able to address questions about individual student performance at Open Houses. Teachers look forward to discussing your child’s progress with you formally at the upcoming parent/teacher conferences. If you have specific concerns or questions about your child’s learning prior to conferences, please reach out to your child’s teacher directly through email or phone call. We are always happy to collaborate to support your child’s success. We strongly believe that an excellent education is not possible without the collaboration between students, families, and the schools. It takes all stakeholders working together in order to create the best possible experience for our children and for the entire Norfolk Community.

We look forward to seeing you at the Open House night.

Sneak Peak at Bren Bataclan - Artist in Residency - September 19 - 23, 2022

We are very fortunate to welcome Bren Bataclan to Freeman Kennedy School next week (September 19-23) for an artist in residency. He will be working with the students and staff to create a beautiful mural in the cafeteria. Bren Bataclan is an accomplished Cambridge artist who has artwork all over the world - literally! He randomly gives away paintings; using art to pass forward kindness. Bren's project is about the positive power of art and how the simple gesture of leaving a painting for free can spread joy and laughter. For more information reference Kindness Can Truly Be Paid Forward by Bren Bataclan on TEDxNatick.

Great thanks to the Norfolk PTO for funding this exciting experience at the Freeman Kennedy!

MA Extends Free School Lunches for 2022-2023!

Massachusetts has extended free school meals for all students through the 2022-2023 school year! Even though meals will be free for all, it is very important for families to still complete the household application for next school year, which allows our district to establish eligibility for P-EBT benefits and other school programs.
