ID Badges
ALL students must be wearing their ID and it should be visible at all times. Whether it be their school ID on a lanyard OR a temporary ID (sticker) badge, it MUST be worn.
If a student has lost their ID Badge, please replace it in the front office (it does cost money to replace an ID Badge).
If a student has forgotten their ID Badge, the consequence is last in line at lunch and no Snack Bar.
NEW
Students will be charged for an extensive number of temporary badges! Please be sure to use and wear your issued ID Badge.
Cell Phone Policy

Science
Hello Thunderhawks!
This week in Science, students finished our unit on the Water Cycle. Next week we begin our unit on Weather! Students will learn about weather prediction and how to read a weather map. Students will also learn about the factors that affect our weather.
English
The spooky season is upon us! This week we are using a nonfiction article about fears and phobias to continue toward our mastery of using textual evidence to support our answers and inferences. We are also continuing with our grammar and mechanics practice as we are diving deeper into our usage of adjectives and adverbs, and their impact on writing. Next week, we will begin our mini unit that focuses on simple, compound, complex and run-on sentences.

6th Grade Math
This week we finished up Unit 3 and took our Unit test on Friday. Next week we start Unit 4 and will begin a flipped classroom model, so please check with your student since they all brought home homework notes to fill out and prepare for Monday’s class. All the info on their homework is listed on the Week 11 Module under Friday. If your student was absent on Friday there is a digital copy nf the notes on Canvas for them to print or they can just write them in their notes.
Need Help in Math? Here’s what you can do:
Come see your math teacher during pre-advisory (7:10-7:40)
Come do a working lunch. (There is always 1 math teacher available during that time to offer help).
6th Grade IA Pre-Algebra
This week we learned how to apply the Distributive Property and write proportional equations. We applied this knowledge to real life situations in which the students were given word problems and had to write and solve equations using proportions. Next week we will have a quiz and do several investigations on Discovery Ed.

Geography
Hey ThunderHawk families! We hope you all had a great weekend. This week in Geography students will be reviewing our Chapter 3 Unit for their upcoming test. Their second Geography test of the school year will be on Friday, November 4. Students should use their Geography notebooks, especially their Mastery Logs, to study for their test. All week we will review Chapter 3 content with students, because Chapter 3 was a lengthy unit. Let us know if you have any questions!
ALSO: On November 11 Heartland will be hosting a Veterans’ Day assembly. Students who have family members who are past or present military are welcome to submit pictures of them to show during the assembly. Our goal is to honor your family members for their military service, but you do not have to submit pictures if you are not comfortable with that. If you have pictures to submit, please email the pictures to your student’s Geography teacher.

Message for 6th Grade Principal
Hey Thunderhawks!
What a fun dress up week! It was great seeing so many students participate.
Quick reminder on lanyards. All sixth graders should be wearing a maroon lanyard with their school ID. Students are not to trade these out for their own lanyard. This helps us to identify students by their grade level.
All chromebooks need to be charged every night! This helps students to be successful in class when they are prepared and able to use their chromebook in class.
Email should be used for educational purposes only! Please make sure that all usage of Chromebooks is for school purposes.
Red Ribbon Week was so much fun and we got to wear some crazy outfits! As we return on Monday, please remember the Heartland dress code: no head gear in the building, no blankets, and ID on at all times! Although Monday is Halloween, we will NOT be dressing up for school this day!
November’s word of the month is attentiveness. Attentiveness is the action of paying close attention to something. Pay close attention in your classes so that you can be successful this semester!
I am so proud of this 6th grade team. They truly bring me so much JOY!
Love,
Joy AKA
