6th Grade Social Studies- Ancient Egypt- Mummy Oranges
It is time for one of the highlights of our 6th grade year spent studying ancient civilizations. We get to make mummies! Not only is this process messy enough to be popular, it also accurately teaches the steps taken to prepare a body for burial along the Nile.
In the past, each family provided an orange and one other ingredient. Several years ago, parents suggested sending money instead because items vary in price and are much cheaper in bulk. Therefore, I am requesting that each 6th grade student bring $1.50 by Thursday, February 8. This will hopefully save you a bit of cash and an extra trip to the store.
Please contact Mrs. Rothfuss at 243-2114 or jodee.rothfuss@usd333.com with questions or comments.
Patriot's Pen
The Patriot's Pen essay contest encourages young minds to examine America's history along with their own experiences in modern American society by drafting a 300-400 word anonymous essay, expressing their views based on a patriotic scheme chosen by the VFW COmmander-in-Chief. This year's theme was America's Gift to My Generation. Patriot's Pen is open to 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students.
Judging Criteria:
- Knowledge of the theme - 30 points
- Theme development - 35 points
- Clarity of ideas - 35 points
- The essay is anonymous
This year the contest had approximately 70 entries. First place winners were given in 6th, 7th grade, and 8th grade. Students from Concordia, Clifton-Clyde, and the surrounding areas were able to participate in the contest.
