Morning Procedures.
Our main focus at Curtis is to make sure that your student is safe at all times. We are looking for ways to create better processes with our morning and afternoon procedures. We will inform you of changes as we make them! Here are our current procedures:
- All doors will remain locked in the morning.
- Front doors will be opened from 7:15 – 7:50. At 7:50 the doors will close and students will have to go through the office to enter the building.
- Students may go to cafeteria for breakfast and gym if not eating breakfast.
- Breakfast is from 7:15-7:50--- Any students that come in at 7:50 or after will take their breakfast to class with them.
- Parents that want to conference with their child's teacher must check in at the office.
- Entry through the back doors is only allowed for staff, handicap visitors, bus and bicycle students during the school day.
NEW Afternoon Procedures
Thank you for your sincere concern for the safety of our students. We have listened to your suggestions and changes to our dismissal process are being made. Beginning on October 9th, we will begin dismissing students from the building. The new plan is as follows:
Car Riders
1. Teachers will be stationed at the entrance of the driveway to call for your children as you pull into the driveway. You WILL still need a student name card in your car. If you have multiple children, teachers will call the oldest siblings name and that sibling will pick up the younger children before exiting the building. Please remain in your car!
2. Pull up as far as you can go in the second lane of the driveway to one of the designated cones.
3. Students will exit the building as they hear their name called.
4. Teachers will be waiting at the bottom of the front steps to help students into cars.
5. As soon as your children have safely loaded into your car, pull into the third drive-thru lane and exit the driveway.
6. DO NOT pick up students in the back parking lot. This is our bus lane.
Walkers and Walk-UPs
Students who walk home will be dismissed at the east door in the front of the building and will access the crosswalk at the end of the driveway if needed.Parents that walk up to retrieve students need to create a line near the fence by the portables so that we can call students outside.
***Any student who is not picked up by a vehicle in the driveway will be considered a walker and will exit the building at the east door. Please communicate to your children how they will get home.
Parking
Parking is allowed ONLY in the far left lane (the farthest lane from the building) of the front drive. The second lane from the building is for student pick-up. The third lane from the building is for drive-thru only. Parents may park north of Russell along Lamar Street and south of the school along Lamar street.
Card System
Our student identification card system will remain in effect. Always have your card with you. This helps us ensure our students are going home with the correct people and help expedite our drive-thru pick-up process. If you are ever in need of a new card, please notify your teacher to get a replacement. If an alternate person is picking up your student, please have them park and come to the office for verification.
Reminders:
● Please remember to not exit your car if you are parked in the pick-up lane. We want to keep the traffic flow moving!
● The back parking lot is for buses and teachers only. Please do not drive through or drop off in the back.
● There will be no early dismissal/pick up of students after 3:00 PM.
● Remember to notify the office in writing or by phone, if your child has an alternative plan for getting home.
The safety of our students is our top priority. Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work to refine our new dismissal process.
