2021-2022 Budget, Propositions Pass
By a vote of 1,855 to 956, Greece Central School District voters approved a $247,185,100 spending plan for the 2021-22 school year. With a budget-to-budget increase of 2.70%, the budget remains within the state’s tax levy limit and carries a projected tax rate of $24.57 per $1,000 of assessed value.
“The budget approved tonight reflects our commitment to focus on what matters,” said Superintendent Kathleen Graupman. “We’re grateful to the voters and thank the entire community for their support of Greece schools.”
By a vote of 1,902 in favor and 962 against, voters approved a bus purchase proposition that authorizes the district to purchase 13 replacement buses and two student transportation minivans at a cost not to exceed $1,444,484. Of that amount, $285,000 will come from the district’s previously established bus purchase reserve fund. The remaining cost will be spread out over five years and is not expected to further impact the tax rate.
By a vote of 1,932 in favor and 954 against, voters authorized the establishment of a 10-year building capital reserve fund not to exceed $10 million. With voter authorization, these reserve funds can be used to finance in whole or in part future construction projects, building facility improvements, and/or the purchase and installation of associated equipment and furnishings.
In a five-way race for three seats on the Board of Education, voters selected incumbents Tracey Farmer (1,784 votes), newcomer Tammy Flores (1,642 votes) and incumbent Sherita Traywick (1,638 votes). Candidate Ryan McDonald earned 1,550 votes and candidate Ruben Morales garnered 1,071 votes.
The newly elected Board of Education members will serve three-year terms beginning on July 1, 2021.
