MARK YOUR CALENDARS
Anyone can join the PTA! We ask for a $10 “goodwill” donation when you join, but this fee is
totally optional. Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, as an executive board meeting. We will meet at 6:30 p.m. in the Longfellow library. All are welcome, and we hope to see you there! On Friday, March 13th we will have a few school board members here to visit and answer questions. More information to come soon!
CARNIVAL TIME
Every year, Longfellow holds a schoolwide carnival that also is our biggest fundraiser. This
year’s carnival will be on Saturday, April 18, 2020, so please save the date! The event will
include games, a cakewalk, raffles, and a silent auction, as well as food for sale. We will have
more details in the weeks to come, but we hope your whole family can attend. The carnival is a fantastic event, and the money it raises helps us provide field trips, classroom and media support,
special school experiences, and more!
Guest Music Educator - Great opportunity
The most special part of this experience for the music teachers was to observe a model lesson where Mr. Jay worked with a small group of upper-elementary students from our very own Longfellow! Our Longfellow students were respectful, creative, and hard-working during this session and we are thankful for their participation. It was a great learning experience for the teachers, and the students seemed to have a lot of fun! Please enjoy a few pictures and videos! Many thanks for supporting the arts in our schools, Longfellow families!
GSA
Longfellow is offering a voluntary Gender and Sexuality Alliance meeting every other Wednesday during lunch and recess time for 5th and 6th graders. The purpose of the group is to allow students to learn about gender and sexuality in a safe space where they are free to ask questions. The group is led by Ms. Amanda and the students will learn the vocabulary needed to talk about gender and sexuality proficiently, LGBTQ+ contributions to society, political conversations shaping LGBTQ+ rights, and young adult and children's literature to help explore the world around them. We hope to bring in guest speakers to help students better understand the world around them. If you have any questions please contact Amanda Mosley at mosley.amanda@iowacityschools.org.
