FOOD ASSISTANCE IS AVAILABLE
Food Service: Breakfast & Lunch Available
A survey is no longer needed to request breakfast or lunch for your student(s). There is now a waiver that allows meals to be provided for all children under the age of 18 and adults with disabilities 26 years of age or under, regardless of status or what district they are enrolled or not enrolled in.
Families can pick up meals from Walled Lake Central, Northern or Western high schools, every Monday from 12-1:30 p.m. If school is closed on a Monday, meals will be distributed the next school day. This week, there is no school Monday, 9/28, in observance of Yom Kippur. As a result, meals will be distributed Tuesday, 9/29, at the same times. WLCSD can provide seven days of breakfast and seven days of lunch, regardless of when school is scheduled, until at least Dec. 31, 2020.
Hospitality House helps feed our community
The Hospitality House has been fighting hunger in our community since 2002. It distributes more than 35,000 pounds of food to approximately 450 households every month.
Qualified households can shop the food pantry aisles twice a month at no charge. The quantity of food distributed is based on the household size.
To apply for food assistance, visit the pantry (click here for food distribution hours) and bring the following documents:
- A Proof of Identification for all members of the household: driver's license, state ID, Social Security cards and/or birth certificates for children
- Proof of Income: pay stubs, unemployment letters, Social Security letters, bank statements showing income deposits, tax returns
- Proof of Expenses: rent/mortgage bill, utilities
No appointment is needed and you receive food the date of your visit. If you have any questions, please call Hospitality House at (248) 960-9975.

Important information about iReady testing for all K-5 students
Between Sept. 21 and Oct. 16, your child will be taking the iReady Diagnostic Assessment at home since we are learning virtually right now. During a normal school year, this would be done at school. Because the iReady results are used to provide targeted teacher instruction and "just right" iReady instructional lessons, it is CRITICALLY IMPORTANT that students do not receive any assistance from others while answering the iReady questions.
The iReady is an "adaptive" test, meaning the questions will change as a result of how your child did on the previous question. Your child will be presented with questions that are too easy, too hard and just right. The test ends when a child answers 50% of the questions correctly and 50% incorrectly. The adaptive nature of this diagnostic provides educators with very specific information to guide instruction according to your child's needs.
As a parent myself, I know how difficult it is to stand by and watch your child struggle when they don't know the answer to something. When your child takes the iReady diagnostic, he/she will not know all of the answers. THIS IS OK! I have included the "Supportive Phrases to Use with Students While Assessing at Home" document below to provide some talking points to support your child during the assessment.
Please take some time to explore the information below. It's extremely important that you are familiar with the purpose of the iReady Diagnostic, what it will look like as it is administered at home, and how you can support your child and our school's iReady diagnostic.
Your child's teacher will provide you with specific dates and the format for administration of the iReady for his/her class. Given the inexperience of our youngest learners with some technology skills, the administration of the iReady will require parent support.

Don't forget to report tardies and absences
If your child will be absent or late, or needs to end the remote day early due to illness or a scheduled appointment, you must leave a message on the Attendance Line. It is also helpful if you let the teacher know. Every teaching and learning moment is crucial, and we appreciate your partnership to ensure good attendance and participation.
