Husky Howler
October 8, 2021
Dear Hill-Roberts Families:
Based on the week we had with the number of COVID cases we saw at Hill-Roberts, it's strong evidence that our testing program is essential and we must be vigilant in our masking and mitigation strategies, even outside of school. We were grateful to have the COVID Safety Testing catch the positive case this week and it undoubtedly saved other families and even contacts of that student's family from potentially contracting the virus.
We jumped up to 62% of families who have provided consent to take part in our testing program. Those families do not need to do anything to have their children continue to participate. Families who would like their children to begin participating in next week's round of testing have until the end of the day Tuesday (10/12) to complete the consent form: COVID Testing Program Consent
Lastly, if your child is identified as a close contact and is given a Binax Rapid test as part of our reflex testing or if they are symptomatic and tested in school, you will receive an email through Crush the Curve. It will likely come from CIC Health <noreply@cic-health.com>.
Enjoy the long weekend!
Sincerely,
Frank W. Rich, Principal
From the Art Room
Dear Hill-Roberts Families,
Kindergarten artists have been learning all about the element of line. Last week they used oil pastels to draw different types of lines and then used tempera cakes to paint over them! They all did a very good job caring for their paintbrushes and keeping their paint palettes clean. This week, they are turning their line paintings into monsters!
First-grade artists are reviewing the color wheel and texture this week in art class. They read the story, 'What Makes a Rainbow' by Betty Ann Shwartz and listened to the ROY G. BIV song. Then they traced and cut out a cloud and used texture plates to add texture to their clouds.
Second-grade artists are finishing up their sloth collages this week! They reviewed the color wheel, primary colors, and secondary colors. They focused on the secondary colors to make their sloths. Students who finished early were also able to make secondary color pumpkins!
Third-grade artists observed illustrations in a book called 'Flashlight' by Lizi Boyd. This is a wordless book, which illustrates a young boy exploring nature at night. He uses his flashlight to spot lots of different nocturnal animals! Third graders used the illustrations as inspiration for their own nighttime drawings which focused on showing emphasis in their artwork.
Fourth-grade artists watched a timelapse video of a hot air balloon fiesta that takes place in Albuquerque, New Mexico. They observed the different designs and colors used on the balloons and then created their own hot air balloon drawings!
CREST Winners
During the school day, Huskies who exhibit our core values of Caring, Respect, Excellence, Safety & Trust can earn a CREST ticket from any Hill-Roberts staff member (including the bus drivers!). Each student who earns a CREST Ticket has their name placed into a drawing to earn a weekly prize that is picked by Mrs. Cotsalas. Their name is called during the morning announcements and they get their photo taken with a CREST Certificate.

Hi Husky Families, lots of exciting things coming up!
Bingo for Books – Friday 10/15
Have you signed up yet for Bingo for Books next Friday? A fun event for the whole family (and did we mention our own Mr. Chelman will be the MC of the evening?!) We are also looking for a couple of volunteers to help set up, man the entry table, or hand out Bingo cards and dabbers as games reset. If you have an hour or two to spare, please let us know, we could really use the help! (note: all volunteers must have an active CORI on file. Don’t worry – it’s easy!)
Monster Book Fair
Scholastic flyers will be coming home early next week. The fair will open at Bingo for Books next Friday evening, and teachers' wish bins will also be available for purchase. Volunteer slots are still open, so please sign up and receive Scholastic Dollars for both yourself and your child's teacher. It'll be a monstrous good time!
