Curriculum Guide Highlight: Support for Key Ideas & Details standards cluster
Guiding students as they grapple with text is the core of literacy instruction. The Vocabulary Instruction (page 9) and Building and Strengthening Reading Skills (page 10) pages in the Curriculum Guide offer guidance in planning for deep analysis of texts.
Standards Support Highlight: Strong question sequences
Questions that guide students back to the text provide an opportunity to strengthen comprehension. The Text-Based Questions, FSA Style folder in Sharepoint is a resources to assist in planning for strong question sequences.
Standards Support Highlight: Writing
Resources in Sharepoint are available as teachers continue to support written responses with attention to the FSA rubric

Science
Biology
Spring Semester is flying by! By now, in March, you should be caught up and progressing through Genetics and Patterns of Inheritance. In case you missed it, this POGIL is great on tying together DNA Structure and Replication.
Don’t forget that Cpalms can help with teaching and reviewing Mendelian Genetics.
Vocabulary confidence is a huge component of doing well on the Biology EOC. Remind students of the prefix, suffix, and root words that make up these more daunting biology vocabulary terms. This PPT prints in 8 pages and could be a great resource to post online and on your walls for students to refer to.
Science Technology and Upcoming Dates
Science Technology:
Students often struggle with inheritance patterns (SC.912.L.16.2) and codominance of traits. Try the “Inheritance” Gizmo and breed some aliens to help them understand!
Upcoming Dates:
- QB3 Testing window is March 22-26th
- DRAFT EOC date is May 20 so plan accordingly
Social Studies
U.S. History Focus
In March, students will learn the history and real meaning of “boomers” and the context from which the term came! Post-war America, the New Frontier, and the Great Society will be the focus of study as students continue to learn about the rise and continuing international influence of the United States as a world leader along with the impact of contemporary social and political movements on American life.
SS.912.A.7.1 Identify causes for post–World War II prosperity and its effects on American society.
SS.912.A.7.4 Evaluate the success of 1960s-era presidents’ foreign and domestic policies.
SS.912.A.7.11 Analyze the foreign policy of the United States as it relates to Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Latin America, and the Middle East.

Provide links to study strategies with examples that seem most appropriate for your course and content. Ask former students what they did to prepare and study for your course and relay that to your current students.
Students have access to Prepworks to utilize the three practice assessments. The reports are very useful to determine benchmarks that may require further review or celebrations for success.

The CTE Department encourages teachers to review the following resources before administering the PLTW EOC:
Course blueprints located in the Teacher Guide of each course in Courses in myPLTW.
The Assessment Administration Manual and this video are both extremely valuable resources.

CCPS, in partnership with Uncharted Learning, will be hosting a workshop for CTE middle & high school teachers focusing on entrepreneurship.
Entrepreneurship across the Curriculum
What is it?
A three-part applied course design workshop series where teachers learn the basics of entrepreneurship, receive personalized coaching on how and where to integrate current, industry-standard principles and practices of entrepreneurship into their classes, and apply innovative, experiential course design strategies to enhance their curriculum. Teachers come away with a robust, revamped syllabus that integrates real world entrepreneurship tools and strategies into their existing curriculum, and the skills to incorporate innovative experiential learning practices into their teaching.
- SESSION 1 - KICKOFF The series starts with a 2-day immersive kick-off where teachers explore tools and mindsets of entrepreneurs and innovative experiential learning course design approaches. Teachers come away from the initial workshop with a revamped syllabus that embeds entrepreneurial skills and performance assessments into their class.
- SESSION 2 - ITERATE The cohort of teachers returns midyear to reconnect, share successes, unpack challenges, engage in a formative evaluation of their class, and strategize iterations to improve the student learning and entrepreneurship experience.
- SESSION 3 - REFLECT The series culminates with a guided reflection workshop where teachers will evaluate their course against their own student learning outcomes and develop an action plan for continuing to integrate entrepreneurship, entrepreneurial thinking, and experiential learning into their classes.
Work-Based Learning
March is an exciting time for CTE as students are preparing for a district-wide Career Exploration event! This virtual initiative, in partnership with Junior Achievement titled - JA Virtual Career Connect will refresh & replace the traditional high school career fairs. The newly designed program will allow students to continue to learn about various career opportunities and business professionals in the Naples area. Our high school CTE/NAF students have been polled in regard to careers that interest them the most, and we identified the top seven career clusters including:
- Engineering/Construction
- Finance/Entrepreneurship
- Healthcare
- Hospitality
- Law Enforcement/Criminal Justice
- Technology/IT
- Education
During the event, students will have the opportunity to view a keynote presentation and choose from three out of the seven career panel presentations. Each panel will consist of four local professionals ranging in career experience, along with one FGCU student. The hope is that students will learn about a myriad of career opportunities and find interest in career pathways that are in and will be in high demand. We are also excited to have so many local professionals participating to hopefully show students that Collier County is a great place to live and work!

Canvas - External Tools Assignment
Did you know that you can create an assignment in Canvas with a pre-made format for your students using O365 applications such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.? It is easy to do. Simply create the document in the application of your choice, save it to YOUR One Drive and then create an assignment in Canvas with the Submission Type as: External Tool>O365 Cloud Assignment. This will put an individual copy of the document in each students OneDrive with easy access and submission through Canvas. Click on the Link for step-by-step directions.
Microsoft Forms
Microsoft FORMS is part of the Office 365 suite of programs and is available to all CCPS (Collier County Public Schools) staff and students. Go to the Office 365 icon on the desktop, log in using CCPS credentials and select forms from the left side navigation bar.
Microsoft FORMS offers “quizzes” with automatic grading features and “forms” for non-graded surveys that graphically display data in real-time. Graphed responses are provided to the form owner(s) in real-time and to the respondent in either real time or when the owner posts the scores. That option is found in the settings in the top right corner of the interface.
Additionally, FORMS, like most office 365 programs, contains the Immersive Reader feature that provides visual and auditory support options. These features include the ability to read the question aloud and in multiple language options. A full self-paced training is available in the Microsoft Education Center - Link
Click on the Link for a detailed document highlighting the different question types and graphical data representations created in Forms.
