Crosby Senior Newsletter

Class of 2019 - Issue 1 - July 2018

Senior year is finally here!

Hello Seniors! Congratulations on making it to your senior year. There are so many deadlines, forms, essays, applications to fill out or pay attention to. The Crosby Team created a senior newsletter just for the class of 2019. In this newsletter, we will keep you up-to-date on program requirements, deadlines, academies, and college information on a monthly basis. The information is here, but it is your responsibility to read it, log-in to your Crosby portal regularly, and ask questions to stay informed.

Class of 2019 t-shirts are in! You can pick yours up when you attend a Crosby Senior Academy.

Senior Academy 1: "Creating A Target List of Schools"

Monday, July 9th, 2-4pm

1333 Jake Alexander Boulevard South

Salisbury, NC

Our first Senior Academy available for the Class of 2019 will be on Monday, July 9th at 2 pm at Rowan Cabarrus Community College, 600 Building, Computer Lab.

Creating a Target List:

We will help you identify schools that are "safe", "target", and "dream" schools that you should put on your list of schools to apply to. Learn what schools offer your major and what will be a good fit for you academically, financially, and culturally.

RSVPs are enabled for this event.

Senior Academy 2: "Getting In"

Friday, July 13th, 2-4pm

201 West Fisher Street

Salisbury, NC

"Getting In": Completing college applications can become monotonous and sometimes daunting, especially if you don't know what Admissions Counselors are looking for in an applicant. At this Academy, we will engage in activities designed to help you better understand the Admissions process from both sides of the desk and help prepare you to be the most competitive applicant you can be.

RSVPs are enabled for this event.

More Summer Suggestions

  1. Research your college options and compare the colleges/universities in which you are interested online on college search sites like Big Future.
  2. Use the College Comparison Worksheet, available in your Crosby Portal, as a resource to help keep track of information for your top schools.
  3. Create/update your Activities Resume in your Crosby portal to help later with your admission and scholarship applications.
  4. Visit college campuses to help narrow down your list of schools (and send us your selfies/confirmations to receive College Visit credit toward your senior requirement).
  5. Review college applications and mark admission deadlines on a calendar.
  6. Work on your first drafts of personal statements/essays for early admission applications.
  7. Volunteer in the community and submit your community service form.
  8. Think about how you plan to pay for college. Research the different types of Financial Aid. Start a scholarship search and save those for which you plan to apply. Perhaps you can get a part-time job and begin saving for college.
  9. Establish a CFNC.org account to help with sending your HS transcripts and explore other features the website offers.
  10. Have fun! Whether you take a vacation, go to camp, or sleep in - just make sure to enjoy some time off this summer.
