Kindergarten Report Cards
Dear Parents,
If you have had a prior child in kindergarten, you have probably noticed that this year’s new report card scores are very different than what you are used to seeing. The scores represent an ongoing reporting of your child’s learning. As your child’s skills develop, these scores should progress throughout the year with a goal of a (3) by the END of kindergarten.
If your child continues to make a (1) on any skill, they are still progressing towards initial foundational skills. This means that they are just beginning to understand and apply the basic skills needed for mastery of the standard listed. In the analogy above, your child would work on skills such as pedaling on a tricycle, before attempting to ride a bicycle. As in all development, such as walking, talking, losing teeth, etc..., children acquire skills at different rates. Some children just need a little more practice to help them achieve success. At this time, additional help at home is recommended and greatly appreciated!
